...start off with the simply and proven K&N panel filter and F6 snorkel.

Vehicle is currently tuned with a K&N panel filter and rudimentary copy of an F6 snorkel (PVC pipe etc), producing 400 RWHP. Good for a 12.8203 ET (115.21 MPH) at Heathcote Park Raceway 24 Jun 10.

Estimated cost is 400 for complete shaker kit, 79.80 for filter kit and the vehicle's in the panel shop for a bonnet and front bar repair anyway, so I'm thinking it is 500 to go through this shaker exercise and run it for a year to see if there are any benefits. Always wanted something hanging out of the bonnet! I suppose you only live once. If it puts a smile on my face while cruising I'll be happy. Bet it won't shake though.

Alternative is to cost a (battery relocation) Stage 2 CAI via Nizpro and way up the difference. Any idea how much that costs? An example here.

to be honest I don't mind the shaker idea , hey it gives you a hole in the bonnet good for temps and if fed straight into air box along with the f6 intake it might work well.

the other crap your looking at would most likely be a restriction when the turbo is going full noise.

Oh well in that case an airbox is your next step for sure.

G'day Mate,

Just a Heads up I have a Shaker on My Xr6. Ran Great until one day it stopped. Car wouldn't Start. Had it taken to Ford on a truck they said water was getting into the engine via the threads holding the shaker onto the engine. Had to replace wireing harness, clean up the coils and oxygen sensors. Over $1250 to fix it, I had a car that was working fine until I put the shaker on. Does look good but there are some issues. Just thought id let you know, because I could've bought the flash tuner for the price that I had to pay to have it fixed. that's where the gains are. :)No real power gains with the shaker it just looks good, my dad has the same car but with the SS Inductions Big Mouth Kit. Cost about $350 and it goes probably better and no issues as its a similar setup to factory ie nothing screwed into the engine.

Cheers,

Matt.

Cheers BionicXR6Matt,

The maker did mention when I picked the shaker up that in three years of production he has received only one report of water ingress from a buyer up in North Queensland (torrential rain). Advised me to use sealant around the bolts. I'll clean it regularly and experiment with fibre washers and o-rings to keep the moisture at bay.

Funnily enough, the panel shop wasn't keen on fitting the shaker during the front bar and bonnet repair, so I'll have the maker install it himself.

Here goes nothing:

Problem with the XR8 bulge for me is that more of the side view I see, the more I start feeling .

Actually, didn't I read or hear somewhere that the design was conceived in a little known country called Barfvaria?

And may I add, :)
