Guest Mr Walker Guests Posted 04/08/03 05:22 AM Share Posted 04/08/03 05:22 AM You may have better ratios, but it would take a very good manual driver to out do me on a track, and I'd bet most of you manual guys wouldn't be up to it.Wanna bet?I to love manuals and this is my first auto ever, I don't think its perfect and yes I even think I'd be quicker in the manual formThanks for agreeing with me.And finally, Macktheknife...The SSS is a common auto with a torque converter. Both the others are very sophisticated (and expensive) auto changing gearboxes with clutch's (automatic but still a clutch in every sense of the word) launch control, etc etc. There just ain't a comparison....glad someone understands. So it goes through a torque converter, so it is unsophisticated but you still will realise that letting the motor spin at slightly higher revs ( even with all that sloppy slip) will allow a far bit of power to get to the back wheels. Have you driven the auto very hard? I have driven both and can talk from experiance. And yes I would be quicker in the manual but alot of manaul drivers wouldn't be as quick as me in a manual either ( but of course no where near as fast as you) so what im trying to say is alot of manual drivers wouldn't be able to use the car to its fullest capabilities. Some smart drivers realise that they are not Marcus Ambrose or Craig Lowndes and buy the Auto so they can enjoy the car as fast as they could experience it in all its glory ( and still have a leg that works after half an hour of peak traffic ). So therefore to them the Auto is quicker, and hence mostlikely quicker than the manual.Enjoy life and happy motoring My 2 cents worth and most likely all that it is worth. :D

Remember the scale only goes up to 10.

Grant Member 453 Member For: 22y 2m Location: Kurrajong, Sydney Posted 04/08/03 10:17 PM Share Posted 04/08/03 10:17 PM I actually bought the manual with every intention of changing the box. Personally can't stand auto's, love the feedback you get from driving a manual and I'm happy to spend the money on a replacement box.

Posted 04/08/03 11:48 PM Share Posted 04/08/03 11:48 PM I think the difference will come down more to driver ability than anything else. I tried to "launch" by turning the TC off and taking it up to 3000rpm, ( used to be good in the skyline) and the car just sat there and smoked the tyres with a quite buzzing sound.....Not much of a launch but fun, at tad expensive on tyres though  Fastest at the drags? the Auto, fastest around the track? neither! The T fitted with the premium brakes manual OR Auto!
