WHO BLOODY CARES whether auto or manual cars are faster. I have an auto and I'm happy with it. Manual may or may not be quicker but I don't really give a f*ck. If I wanted ultimate speed and straightline performance I wouldn't of bought a XR6T, I would of bought a Rex or Skyline. Get over this obsession with auto vs manual and just enjoy driving your cars!

After driving the SSS Auto for 9 months (and previously having Auto's and Manual's) the SSS is just like flat changing in a slick euro Manual box... try that in your crappy Ford Manual and you'll be leaving bits behind!

Who needs a clutch!!

I have a quick, flat changing Manual, that doesn't drop it's internals!! Boy's, it's called the SSS Auto. :D The year is 2003, Sophisticated Performance!!

:D - All in good fun

'Scuse me? A Rex or a Skyline?

How about a Big Block 440 Magnum in a Dodge or a Plymouth, a 426 Hemi in a 'Cuda or Charger or a Ford FE 427 in a Fairlane Thunderbolt.

THAT is ultimate speed or straightline performance!!!

(No offence intended...just expanding upon the theme or horses for courses. The mentioned cars are the ultimate in straightline performance.

The XR6T, WRX and Turbo Skyline are a great compromise between straightline performance, great stopping and handling and the ability to carry people in comfort.

Americans are the best at straightline performance....anything from other countries are really only second best when aiming for that criteria (understanding why straightline performance is big in the States you must realise that drag racing is huge and most roads over there are straight freeways designed to criss cross the country)

If straight line performance was the only criteria, then cars would be built in the fashion that Americans prefer. You cannot denigrate another countries preference and apply it to Australian conditions.....the premium we have on stopping and handling is due to the type of motor racing which most popular and the type of roads we drive upon.

I think the Auto group have answered the real question time and again. If you want to go 0-100 quickly ... no skill or driving involved .. grab the Auto. That way ... even granny can do a sub 6. Go girls. :D

Now if you want to DRIVE a sub 6, then learn to do it in a manual !! yeeehaaa.

I still say we have a great package available for all drivers. People will buy what suits them.

But for the real deal .... a track day !!!! I want to see the autos negotiate esses and 3rd to 1st hairpins. C'mon fellas ... a track day !!! :)

As has been said ... It is all good.

Auto is the way to go.....just ask any of the F1 drivers and they'll tell you what they prefer.

Current technology makes the auto a damn sight better than it ever was. Having driven an M3 with SMG I would never go back to a manual if it was available!

plonky,

Ya gotta be joking right.

I mean comparing F1 and SMG gearboxes with the SSS. (Yep I've got one)

The SSS is a common auto with a torque converter.

Both the others are very sophisticated (and expensive) auto changing gearboxes with clutch's (automatic but still a clutch in every sense of the word) launch control, etc etc.

There just ain't a comparison.

I think the operative word was "current technology"

That is what I mean by the SMG 'box. That technology will filter down to volume production cars eventually.

This will be the end of the manual as we know it!

BTW the Alfa Romeo Selespeed is available widely and it is an 'auto' in the sense of the word (even though it is a robotic manual. I have driven it extensively and it is a bloody good 'box.

No skill? Its bloody hard to eat a pie talk on a cellphone and change the SSS! You manual guys think we have it easy don't ya. PS Ive pushed the old SSS function hard on my bird and eat most manuals outta tight corners for the fact if you time it right you can whack for first and just as you come off the brakes it hits 1st and boom away into the wild blue wonder just a mater of timing like a manual. You may have better ratios, but it would take a very good manual driver to out do me on a track, and I'd bet most of you manual guys wouldn't be up to it. Shame your over there I'd love to get a group of 5 manuals and 5 autos and settle it. And as for the fact of buying a manaul for tracks days how many track days will the car see? Very little in relation to its day to day use I'd bet. I to love manuals and this is my first auto ever, I don't think its perfect and yes I even think I'd be quicker in the manual form but the T5 is for lack of better words CRAP. Bang in the box from the 8 and I'd have brought a manual. MAN THESE CARS MUST BE GETTING QUICK CAUSE NOW WE ARE ARGUING OVER THE SPEED BETWEEN THE SLUSHER AND THE CRUNCHER AND NOT HOW MANY COMMODORES WE HAVE DONE.

Happy Motoring
