Posted 30/07/03 05:38 PM Share Posted 30/07/03 05:38 PM Correct me if im wrong but I believe that IMTRBO got 210ish rwkw with his airfilter removed and I know I got 201 rwkw with it in so after allowing for the air filter probably a 5rwkw difference. His being manual and mine auto. When is the next Calder street drags, then we could settle the auto vs manual debate properly.

Vs Spaniard?.Never the twain shall meet. Maybe the spaniard is much more consistant in the traffic light derby (I've got the SSS cause I'm old, lazy and SHMBO can't drive the spaniard) BUT, you will never..... that's NEVER....get the solid connection between engine and wheels whilst you've a torque converter between them. So, If you've never had the pleasure of steering a car around fast bends/corners on the throttle, then ya never gunna get it with an auto........sorryMack..... Guest Mr Walker Guests Posted 31/07/03 04:07 AM Share Posted 31/07/03 04:07 AM There are either some people who love to have a dig here or who really have no idea.Thankyou Macktheknife for the biggest reality check. His post would be the most relevant, especially as he has an auto. And once again we are getting off topic. The question asked by TurboDewd was 'which car is quicker to 100 & 1/4 mile?' Not which car is consistently quicker. Then we get comments like 'my auto only loses 5kw to his manual'. GREAT! But on AVERAGE as we've seen at dyno days it's more like 10-15kw.And then we have to put up with "but drag racers use autos" when quite clearly even the people posting these comment know the comparison is irrelevant as has been clearly pointed out.The thing that gets me most is I can't believe someone on this forum hasn't raced the auto v manual at a dragstrip somewhere in Aus and I'm talking more than 1 or 2 runs.If you raced 20 manuals against 20 autos (5-6 runs each) with drivers of similar ability then there is no doubt in my mind that the manuals would be faster overall from 0-100 and 1/4mile. If you don't agree then you need a reality check (you first NT Turbo!)Look at the facts:Manual has better (more) ratiosManual has less drivetrain power lossMight even weigh less - don't quote me on this oneDon't bother posting to tell me the auto keeps the turbo on boost better - Hell, if I'm racing in a manual and the tacho is under 2500rpm then I'm doing something wrong! Also don't waste you're time telling us that the torque convertor makes up for the worse/lack of ratios because if it does this it's obviously slipping and therefore you aren't getting that power to the back wheels!Ever wondered why Ford doesn't present the auto for testing when a magazine wants a car to do quarter mile tests? Maybe they shoud have used the autos in targa tasmania too - why didn't they?I've got a manual (obviously) but I can't stand driving it in traffic to and from work everyday - it really sh!ts me off! But I put up with it because when I want the car to perform as a performance car the manual is the best option. For all you auto drivers who are trundling alongside side me in peak hour - I expect you to sit back, enjoy the auto and laugh at me while I'm constantly putting the clutch in and out - you have a right to do that. But you don't have a right to enjoy that luxury and then pretend that the auto is the better performance option, justifying it anyway you can.I'll see you boys at the Motorplex to see who's right!(Even though 1 manual vs 1 auto is too small a sample).Keep dreamin'. One more shift for the manual means slower time. And yes I have dragged a manual and yes my auto was quicker. Sorry stick boys ya cars only faster where the speed limit ends. (awaits the scorn from the manual chaps)Have to grab for third before a hundred is up ??? I think not buddy...I get to about 105 in 2nd gear...nice bit of misinformation there....Cheers For that I was going on the info supplied from Motor Mag the issue I cant find at the moment but I have another issue here July 2003 " Not only is the T5 getting seriously close to its reliability in this applicaton, the shift feels like a set of Stilsons in a vice. The two-three shift in particular can take an ice-age to complete, but not a single throw is what you'd call accurate. Give the manual the flick and tick the Auto box and you'll be getting a better car in any case since the slusher works so well with the turbo mill " Page 73 if intersted.( Yes I know I strayed from the track again )

Guest Mr Walker Guests Posted 31/07/03 06:45 AM Share Posted 31/07/03 06:45 AM Mack,I'm not a straight line man either - circuits are my go. I just wanted to call it as it is after I got reeled in on the biggest hook NTTURBO could throw out. Thanks NT, hope I didn't offend - that wasn't my purpose. The reality is that I nearly bought the auto but thought I'd go out on the circuit maybe a couple of times a year. It a big price to pay during peak hour!As for racing an auto - I can't wait for the 10th August - look forward to it ZMAN, we'll have some fun.Where are you 1axr? I'm sure you want a piece of this.
