He used the short supply to f*ck people around and it's going to bite him back hard, as only good tradies will stay busy throughout the bumpy times. f*cking priceless. We are still having to tell customers its a 3 month wait until we can start building their body....so we havnt felt it yet.I have noticed that the dealership salesmen have been delivering the vehicles to our workshop though which is a sign of the times I guess.....when are you coming to visit Pat? I know of 3 rangers that have to come over for railcorp next week.....A majority of our work is for the government though which will continue to spend to stimulate the market as all the major utility company's ive spoken to have not had their budgets reduced for the next period. One of a main builders that we do contracting for ( Ventura Homes ) builds aprox 1,200 houses per year.In 2008 it droped to 750 houses for the whole year. Had some of these sub contractors welding on jobs with us on reasonably large projects, charge through the roof and you have to think for them and generally wipe their arse. There is a few welding crews who we work along side on a lot of jobs and we are usually booked for months ahead at a time . Doesnt happen overnight as it has taken a lot of years to get to a point where you have a good working relationship with our customers as it is with any industry/business. Shouldn't feel good that these guys are very quiet at the moment but it is brought on by themselves. Karma
Ghosti NOT THERE!... THERE! Member 852 Member For: 16y 7m 5d Gender: Male Location: Melbourne Posted 08/12/08 12:43 PM Share Posted 08/12/08 12:43 PM This thread should be called 'How has the stupid dumb f*ck know nothing and report anything dip sh*t media f*cked up every industry in Australia with it's bullsh*t lies?'And what's worse, is people f*cking believe everything they hear/see in the media. WAKE UP AUSTRALIAMy thoughts almost exactly, James.Ironically enough though, I work in the media... Lol, not news or current affairs though so don't beat me.I've been at this particular small company for 3 years and business is basically as per normal.People love television and if they're staying at home in front of the toob instead of going out and spending money, obviously that's good news for us.However, there has been a widening of the company's focus recently to include some new areas, namely brand marketing and motorsport category management. I have to admit that this has definitely had an effect on the amount of work we're turning over. So maybe a couple of smart moves by the boss, earlier in the year, have paid off.Either way, I really feel for the tradies. My old man was a chippy up until about 2 years ago and I've seen his business go through a lot of ups and downs. Like Grudgi said earlier though, the smart ones always make it through.
