I work in Recruitment for the WA mining industry and I can say that I have noticed a bit of change in how things are going...

There are less companies actually wanting to hire anyone at the moment (which is understandable). Obviously a big drop in the price of commodities has a massive influence on this. A lot of projects have gone on hold due to companies not being able to raise funds to get them off the ground due to the lack of investor confidence. There also seems to be more people available and looking for work as a result of projects not going ahead or being cancelled etc, so most companies can be a little more selective as to who they hire as they have more choices in terms of candidates than they have in a while.

What does it mean for me - a sharp drop in commission bonuses, I dont think ill get the arse, I will just have to work smarter and more efficiently and will have to be able to adapt to do whatever the market dictates...

I work with coin operated amusement games, things are on par with last year (calender year) however machine purchases are going to hit home soon, with 99% of all imports being paid for in US Dollars.

I did a lot of purchasing while the dollar was in the high 90's and am now holding off till our dollar gains a little strength.

I am very fortunate to work in the Health Care Industry.

I am paid by the government to provide services to patients. (I x-ray people)

Luckily for me economic events dont lower the number of people coming to hospital with chest pain, abdominal pain, broken limbs, ect ect.

I work in Funds Management. Have a guess what has happened to our company profit in line with tumbling share prices............

We have already had redundancies with more to come as we are directly linked with sharemarkets - as you would expect. Great time to buy though!

In Real Estate we're starting to see alot of "barging hunting" twats come out of the woodwork with ridiculously low offers thinking reading all the fear munger crap in the new papers makes them experts.

The cold hard facts are in times like this the smart people get rich and the idiots stay poor.

Print industry is suffering as a whole, but we're actually a bit in front of last year (approx 5% revenue). Tough times ahead though.

I appreciate your endorsement Dillz. It seems I'm going to be rich. If the system scales - exceptionally bloody rich.

residential building industry is feeling it pretty hard! Sales have dropped dramatically, with trades beginning to be fully out of work by february/march next year... Huge decrease in contracts signed this financial year can be seen on the BSA website, but there are going to be thousands of tradies without jobs by early to midyear!! Not good at all! Just a matter of how long the sales are going to be low for!
