I own a series 6 rx7 insured under my name as 22 year old with a list of mods that reaches well over 400hp and an 11 second quarter and shannons charge me $2161. the xr6 turbo in my mums name and me as a driver through NRMA is $2495 ..... GET STUFFED. mind u the excess through nrma is more expensive too.

21yo Male, Just Car Insurance $1500 rating 1, the only mods are 19's, tint and lowered. Insured value of car $30.100 not bad compared to when I first got the car it was over 2k

Just got cover for the F6, $1526 pa with GIO, but after adding my 25yo son it jumps to $2451. This includes full vehicle replacement if written off in first 2 years.

They will accept mods, which will increase the excess for each mod list e.g suspension $100; engine output $200. (It reminded me I need to upgrade my policy for xr6t8u). GIO have never had a problem with listed mods over the past 20 years, including 1 vehicle stolen/recovered incident where they kindly wrote-off the vehicle without an issue.

If I was to list my car as being garaged in one of Melbournes hot spots, my policy would almost double.

looking at getting an turbo sedan in a month or so and got a few insuarance qoutes the best one so far is NRMA.

excess- $450

We have a higher rate of car theft as we have more vehilces registered here in Sydney, however per vehicle, per head of population some of the other major cities will infact have the higher rate of vehicle theft.

I really doubt that the theft rate is a major factor in determining premium rates.

In terms of theft the premium rates charged in Sydney are disproportionate to what is charged Australia wide.

If you look at WRX’s since Subaru started fitting Datadots to some of its models in December 2002, it has since experienced a 93% decline in the rate of stolen and unrecovered vehicles, yet premium rates are still very high.

The fpv cars now have datadots, yet premiums are still very high, compared to a non-Datadot car.

If you look at 2005 National theft figures (the latest I could find) you’ll see that SA has a 15% higher theft rate than NSW per 1000 registrations and the ACT figure is the same as NSW. A large portion of theft relates to older, less theft protected vehicles.

I had Datadots put on xr6t8u in 2003 as a theft deterrent; GIO were not interested in giving me any premium discount.

I have not been able to find national Insurance accident and claims statistics to really show why Sydney people pay more than everyone else. If someone could point to such data I’d be interested in reviewing it.

Just got mine today - AAMI $717 (South Brissy) then called em up and had all mods listed on premium no extra cost, and $400 excess. Cant complain there.

AAMI do mine aswell, and I find them a gem to deal with. All the mods listed, and drivers 25 or over only, and it costs me $719, with all my mods and very long driving history. Oh and 400 excess and rating 1 for life!

I lease my T.. so insurance is cheap.. but I rang up to see how much it would and the cheapest I could find was $2,200!

22yo, no traffic offences, no claims... but kept in a carport.. in what im guessing they would class as a high risk area (its near dandenong )
