I had a similar experience to you Jack with AMMI but with a more positive outcome. When I first insured my T it was stock, and I filled out the online info on their website and saved it as a quote. On the quote it stated no one under 25 could drive. I did all this before buying the car. Got the same deal $500 for premium with $2k excess.

The day I bought the car I phoned AMMI and quoted my cover note # etc to pay and add a few accessories to the policy. The lady advised me that no one under 30 could drive it. I simply said the cover note I had stated no one under 25, not 30 and she checked and ammended the policy. She did say it was strange but didn't challenge it at all. So I have my policy clearly stating no one under 25 can drive. Anyone from 25-whatever can drive it fine. :spoton: All a bit of a mute point with me as I was already over 30 but my gf is under, plus a few of my friends are 25-30 still, so it's just handy incase they drive it.

Try getting a quote online, I'm sure they have to honor it as they did mine. I'm into my 2nd premium for the T now and everythings the same. I've also added some mods along the way.

Ben

EDIT: I should add that this happened to me in April 2005, so a fair while ago. If their system is flawed, then they didn't bother to fix it in over a year at least!

I went through the same about five years ago with an AU XR6, so it’s obviously still been broken since then.

Had the same deal as you Jack, completed the online quote and then rang them to confirm it all just before I signed the contract of sale. There was a lot of umming and arring but the bottom line was that they gave me a quote and they had to honour it – and they did. I am a named driver on the policy, and besides me no one else under 30 can drive it though.

Then when I traded to the T (still just under 25) I called them to see if they would swap it over, normally they wouldn’t have but looking at my history they made another exception to the rule and changed the policy over. About to trade up to a BF (still under 30) and they have agreed to cover it without any drama.

In the last two years I have had the displeasure of around $20k in insurance repairs, and although none of these where my fault there has not been an issue with the claims. AAMI handled all the repairs and although they were getting paid out by the other party’s insurance company I’m sure they would have washed there hands of it if they could.

So bottom line is you have a quote that they have to honour, and once they offer you insurance they cannot cancel it unless you have given them false information. Send me a PM if you want my policy number that they can lookup to show that it can be done!

All the best with it buddy.

Cheers for that Tab but if I provide them with a quote number with someone else's details they won't give me any information on it because of the privacy laws...

It's really is frustrating, as it seems they have insured a few of you guys in similar circumstances to me... but won't insure me... I'm going to go and do another online quote with them to see if there is any fine print that I'm missing out on here...

I'm in my second year with AAMI insurance.

I took up the flexi premium option when I turned 25.

Last month I renewed for $701 with a stardard exces of $500 and flexi-premium excess of $250. I have a Rating 1 with an agreed value of $31,700.

Yeah I realise they won't give you any of my details, but the morons could possibly use it for their own reference. Have you tried calling back and speaking with someone else....luck of the draw sort of thing?

I am currently at the online quote page again and they have once again offered me insurance with the following 'endorsments'...

Endorsements

You cannot claim if the driver of the car you currently have insured is under 25 years of age. This restriction does not apply when the car is driven by members of the motor trade for repair or servicing.

I have just saved the quote number and will give them another call and see what they say...

SUCCESS

I have just finished with them on the phone again... and the guy I got today was far more helpful, I have just switched my car insurance over to AAMI from Just Car, all my modifications are listed including the T56...

Are you listed as a driver on the policy though?

Yeah Tab, I am the only driver listed on the policy, I don't have a missus or anything so no-one else really drives my car except me...

Thanks for your help with this guys, you have basically saved me nearly $800 a year on my car insurance... Tab, Adam and Benjam whilst on the phone before I used all of your circumstances to assist my case for insurance... I also asked about agreed value as it really is a very nice car and the guy told me to head down with my car to one of the customer service centre's and they will assist me with that... so once I'm on my feet again and driving (should be 2 weeks) I'll do that!!

A HUGE THANK YOU to you boys!!!

Cheers
