I posted some time ago re: insurance issues, summary is:

RACV insurance OK with some N/A mods .I.e CAI, exhaust etc BUT within their limits. HOWEVER they will NOT insure a turbo with ANY mods that increase power! They will NOT insure a vehicle with a modified air intake system, I know! Been there, done that! Changed to AAMI and no problems with mods as long as they are legal/ roadworthy and are not that visually obvious externally. Believe me I tried with RACV as far as I could go with no success! Beware!

Has anyone in the forum considered group buying power for insurance just like other products. With the number of forum members and a broad geographic and demographic spread it may be possible to get preferential rates particularly if an insurer can be located who understands the vehicles involved.

Obviously this would need a significant level of interest to make it work. What level of interest is out there for this?

traded in the NA on a T last week, and came time to do the dreaded deed of pricing insurance full comp for a under 25 driver.. :crybaby:

phoned about 10 companies and only 2 would even touch me!!

previously on my old NA it was insured thru RACV for $1500 a year full comp. I was fearing that now owning a T my insurance would definately go over 2G! :crybaby:

the only companies who would even care to try to insure me were RACV and JUST CARS (under-written by "aami").

just cars came to $1650 ful comp which I was damn impressed about! I thought to myself PHEW!!! that's a relief I was expecting atleast 2G..

then I rang RACV last of all, and to my huge surprise.... $1240 full comp!!!! I nearly fell out my chair and had to ask the lady on the phone again "are you SURE that's put down as 20 year old driver!?!?" she said yeah and sounded puzzled so I explained how 8 other companies basically hung up in my ear!

oh well end of blog, just thought I would put a bit of faith into under 25ers who are thinking of buyin a T and stressing about the insurance woes!

goodluck fellas!

RACV is really good for T insurance. I am under 25 and was with them for $1000 a year... But they wont touch modified T's. If you want to mod then you will have to go with just cars for over $2000 p/a.

As some of you know I'm moving from Canberra to Sydney (Bankstown specifically).

I knew my insurance was going to go up by a bit, but was shocked at the difference.

For a 25yo, Rating 1 for life living in Canberra; AAMI Quoted about $770 (can't remember exact figure).

Change the suburb to Bankstown and that went up to about $2500.

I started looking around, and found insurance mostly ranging from $2000 with a massive exess (over 1.4k), to $4000 with low exess (400).

I stumbled across HBA (http://www.hba.com.au/) and they quoted me $1126.50.

Agreed value of $42412

Rating 1 (they don't have a for life option, but do allow 1 at fault claim per year without loosing NCB)

1 x Window replacment per year

Exess @ $400

etc..

They will take 10% off if I move my private health over to them, which I think I'll do as their health looks awesome.

Anyway, cause I'm still 24 (will be 25 when I take the policy out), I got a quote anyway @ about $1600 which is still dirt cheap.

I thought I'd pass the info on for those of you paying massive $$$$...
