AAMI, 29YO, Rating 1. $588. IMO not too bad and is the cheapest I found so far.

Work this out though, my last car was an AU XR6 series 1 and cost $589. How the hell do they calculate the premiums.

Yes I know we have heard it many times before, how much is insurance, how much did you pay, your age, etc..

But before i went on holidays I shopped around for my comprehensive insurance.. Best Price for a 26yr old living in Sydney's west was roughly $2,500 (last year was $2800) .

After shopping around and doing online quotes with various companies I found AAMI to be the cheapest at around $1800. I saved the quote online and thought I would pay for it when i came back after holidays.. 2 weeks later (yesterday) i decided to ring them up and pay for the quote. I gave them the reference number and was told I could not insure the car as i am under the age of 30 years old.

Even though during the time I signed up online, i entered all my details correctly including my date of birth, it acknowledged the fact I was 26 and even offered me to purchase the policy online once i completed the questions.

Anyway after having a gripe with the customer service rep on the phone, she told me she would transfer me to Just Cars insurance.. after nearly 30 mins on hold, i finally spoke to someone.. she asked me all the usual questions and they asked me to hold for a price...

I should have held onto my seat... $4800 to cover the car for $55,000 value.

This is what I think of that...

I ended up keeping with the current provider Ford Insure at the price of $2158.

I can't believe where people get off in charging such ridiculous prices..

G'day Chris,

That's really odd because I am Insured with AAMI, and I am only 25.

$1142 Per Year for Northern Sydney.

I would suggest that you ring up again and see what they say. I know for a fact that they fully understand what kind of car I have because I faxed the whole Dealer Invoice to them so that they could see the cost of the extras I chose.

When and if you ring up ask for a supervisor more and more recently the person on the other end of the phone is just a drone who can only talk about certain things.

Good Luck Chris!

that's crap Chris.

Try the others already mentioned, and also give NRMA/RACV a try as they seem to be very competitive. We are only paying $750 for our GT and before that only $450 for the T. But we dont live in Sydney though.

You guys make me sick, especially one of them

I have no driving offences ;)

I am over 30 and a girl

Last accident was 6 years ago - total damage $350 ( pathetic amount )

Rating 1 on insurance policy

But I have one iddy, biddy, tincy wincy problem.

Coke can does not fit under the car :( It is 1mm too low

I get told " Sorry you car has been performanced enhanced or we do

not insure modified cars.......blah blah"

I have insurance - I think, and only after demanding to be insured at

a dealership.

Oh so I ring ford insure - wonderful people they are!

21 questions

1. How high was your car originally

2. What height is a standard XR AU ute

3. How many mm is your car from the road surface

4. Who lowered your car

5. How much did they lower your car

6. How much different is this from the standard height..........

I could go on.......... I am dead serious, these are the questions they gave

me, and told me to ring them back when I had the answers.

NRMA want over $2200

AAMI no way

GIO no way

BUDGET no way

JUST CARS some stupid amount - over $2000

Good one <_< I love insurance companies.........NOT

By the way Ford Insure gave me insurance but..................... :nugget:

Yep.....the great legalised rip off....Insurance. <_<

What really sh!ts me is if you have a couple of minor speeding fines they up the premium by 30% or more......what crap. Getting pinged for doing 5 kph over the limit and pow!!.....30% more.

The sad news is the XR-T is going to get more expensive to insure as more people modify their cars, and the media, police and government focus on the 'hoon' element. Honestly that was one reason I went up to the GT, 20k dearer car and only $30 more to insure, go figure!
