3 or 4 of my mates have crashed with full replacement ecu's (autronic, link, motec) and not once have the insurance company ever said anything (nor did they know). You'd just want to make sure you remove the flash tuner etc if you crash- so someone cant cash in on your bad fortune!!

Actually I've always wondered if people tell insurance companies about their flash tuners..

I'm not sure how knowledgeable they would be in regard to having a MONSTER cooler sticking out the front bar and NEEDING a custom tune.. im not sure if you would be able to get away with it.

Personally, If I had a stack of mods I'd put it down on the tick box to be on the safe side.

I know a guy that lives around the corner from me driving a ute more or less exactly the same as my BF-T, putting out 350kw's. When I spoke to him he said he hasnt spoken a word to his insurance company since the day he bought it. Christ that would scare the hell outta me.

I get scared at times driving around thinking if I stack my insurance won't pull through. For my age/business usage, I'm paying one HECK of alot less than most of you other 20 somethings...

Well I have been with RACQ the last 2 years and I am a rating one for life. Maybe I should have stayed with them, oh well too late now I will just have to see how things pan out. I talked to RACQ about modding the phoon and I was quickly followed by the answer NO. and then NO again after explaining myself. Even though my old XR6T was moded oh well I'm trying to do the right thing here so I dont get bitten in the arse.

Whats shannons like?? anyone

I find shannons good I haven't claimed through them but know people who have with no dramas

cost me $150 a year more than nrma but then they saved me $350 a year on my home and contents insurance so worked out good in the end :spoton:

Agreed!

HOWEVER, half of the Perth-WRX crew have a/market ecus and im sure the insurance companies know about less than 20% of them and its never really come up (but I'd hate to be the first!).

Its one of the reasons I bought the XR. Other than the edit, mods can be kept fairly low key if you wish! IE black fmic's, standard airbox with F6 intake etc :)

Suppose tinting is another biggie. In theory they could deny your claim if you dont have legal tint and it was proven to be a cause of an accident!

I dont think too many people tell there insurance companies about the usual mods, but the bigger ones you'd be crazy not to. Your only going to get dramas if you have a suspicious prang and they want too look into it a bit more. Then if they find undeclared mods they will use this as a reason to pay only a portion of your repair costs or to not pay at all. I suspect the more budget insurance companies will try harder to not pay out then the bigger ones.

Someone wrote something about a rock going through a fmic or an aftermarket intercooler in normal speak. Grill it up, theres tonnes of options that work great, however, your big frontmount I take it is for show more then go and covering it up will defeat the purpose of mines bigger then yours.

Try AAMi flexipremiums. we have an xr6t, a wrx and a 200sx with them..really happy with premium-never claimed so I dont know what they would be like yhen, but I have heard they are good then too.

cheers

One of the few negative things l have read about the XR6T is the potential insurance cost.

l was pleasently suprised when l went into our local RACV branch last week to get a quote on our XR6T, l was quoted only $481 (our current car, a TS50 is also with the RACV at $850) Should mention we live in country vic, l am 32, my wife 27 and we are both rating 1. Makes me wonder what all the fuss is about, l guess the WRX can be ridiculous to insure, so the XR6T was assumed to be in the same basket.

So how has everyone else got on with insurance? Have you been able to better my RACV quote?

I agree!

although I recently sold my XRT, I did an online quote with AAMI for an 06 BF XR6T, and I was surprised with how low it was! I even included mods that would have been on my old car. Got quoted $1050, and on flexi premium it's about $550. I didn't even think to try AAMI when I turned 25 because of the mods.

At least now when I get back into an XR I'll know I'll have relatively cheap insurance! Just Cars still wanted $2300 even though I'm 25 :burnout:

I'm insured with Ryno Insurance, give them a try

http://www.rynoinsurance.com.au/

Cheers Dalesy

I got rejected by them on the online quote so rang them today to try again and see what happened. They took my details down and put me on hold and came back to say that they no longer insure cars like the XR8. They do prestige vehicles only now, like Beemers and Mercs. WTF???

Yer, that was me! More just saying that if by some miracle a rock damaged the std FMIC, I would HAVE to upgrade. But then you HAVE to do the edit / injectors / pump / TBE to allow the car to run properly with the new FMIC :D

I agree with you in regard to mines bigger to! Stealthy black FMIC's FTW!!

I work in the insurance industry, and used to work for CGU claims here in QLD.

Most insurers outsource their assessors, so these 3rd party companies rarely look to decline a claim, as it's not in their best interest. The longer a claim goes for, the more work and more reports the loss adjuster (assessor) is required to submit, so they charge a higher fee.

I've worked for CGU, NRMA and Suncorp, and Im currently working for CommInsure and they've all looked to pay claims, rather than reject them. Unless its an obvious decline (eg drunk driver), its best not to decline a claim, especially if the client goes to the IOS (insurance ombudsman service) who will pretty much overturn 1/3 of all claim denials.

As long as your car is legal and is in good nick (tyres legal etc.) you won't have any problems with a few undeclared mods. But there is an uncertainty there which can grate on you.

BTW, if anyone wants a quote on their XR6t insurance, let me know, and I'll try and get the best price I can with CommInsure. (shameless plug I know, but you won't get any bullsh.t with me).

Cheers

Dave
