Iconic Bionic My engine bay is Bionic Donating Members 3,726 Member For: 18y 8m 11d Gender: Male Location: Freeways Posted 21/09/07 06:13 AM Share Posted 21/09/07 06:13 AM I was very surprised when I went to insure my new o3 T. All of the sites that I went to online would not touch me at all. I rang up AAMI who my 98 camry was insured with currently and asked if they would insure me. She replied yes and when I asked what the difference would be I was waiting for the punch in the mouth. Can I just say that I was over the moon when she cam back with an ammount only 200- 300 more than my camry. What a joke and the best thing is the T is insured for more than double what the camry was insured for. Very happy and Very surprised.BrendanSame deal withme when I went from a lil Astra to an XR. AAMI only added $300 more and the XR was worth 3 times as much. Always been happy with AAMI, but all these years later I'm yet to make a claim. Was a 20 minute phonecall, faxed through the invoice the next day, cheque received in the mail for reimbursement three days later. They didn't even sight the damaged wheel and paid for a new tyre as well. Happy days. :banghead:

Upon reading this I changed my insurance to RACV. I called and asked to make sure the post on this forum was correct. I was told by 3 separate RACV people that my specific mods are allowed (I told them everything I had changed in the car / engine).I phoned up to check out my policy the 1st Oct and talked to a woman who told me that my car is not actually insured because they "do not allow any non factory engine enhancements". They told me I would have to find a new insurance company. I told them to look on my policy and look at the exact mods done and that I was open and honest before taking out the policy and that my XR6T and mods were accepted by more than one RACV sales reps. They said "those reps must have made a mistake as we have not changed our policy since you have been a member".Who else here has RACV insurance on their XR6T and also basic engine mods? If you have told RACV about your mods then I’m not alone here in them going back on current policies.PS I haven’t and hope never to make a claim. oldskool Member 144 Member For: 18y 9m 16d Posted 11/10/07 03:27 PM Share Posted 11/10/07 03:27 PM mate I think they have given you the best adivce they can, you really should be looking for another insurance company!!! I used to be with RACV, they always seemed to provide me with different and conflicting info everytime I rang up with a question. I used to be with RACV, had to make a claim and was told 4 conflicting versions of what sort of claim I made ( the first 2 actually said my insurance was invalid on my car due to modifications (which was an adding alarm to a bloody '88 laser). Got sick of the bs from RACV and moved to AAMI (I dont care about not chosing my repairer for my car sue to its age) seem pretty happy with them, don knowif they allow wegine mods though.if they know about your engine enhacnements listed on your policy, and they know it voids your policy why the hell are they still taking your $$$$. Scary to think that you may have had to make a claim in that time. They are just not worth the time and effort.

Full Monty Member 513 Member For: 17y 5m 7d Gender: Male Location: Melbourne Posted 12/10/07 03:19 AM Share Posted 12/10/07 03:19 AM wow, what engine mods do you have?I am with RACV, my car is stock engine wise, but I was of the understanding as long as it is legal and roadworthy they were fine with mods as long as you had disclosed them..for them to mislead you, approve the mods, listed on your policy and take your money, then to refuse cover in event of a claim is totally dishonest, and I would think your case would stand up in court if they refused your claim.secondly, doesnt the modification have to in some way caused or contributed to the incident for them to legally reject your claim? whether you had informed them of the mod or not. I believe they are required to repair your car with standard parts if you hadnt informed them of specific mods.I think the industry is ripe with this kind of dishonesty, stuff like rejecting a claim because you didnt tell them you had an alarm, what stupidity, you install an alarm to make it a deterrent for theft.I have insured with RACV for over 12 years, rating one, only one at fault claim (not really at fault but it washed up that way), I am seriously thinking of changing when I hear of crap like this.Imagine this, you buy a car second hand, months later you have a bingle, and your claim is rejected because you didnt disclose to them that you have an aftermarket air filter or something which you didnt know about.Honestly if they are telling you that you arent insured, when you were previously led to believe that you were with those mods listed on your policy. I would demand a full refund and take my insurance elsewhere.you were totally honest and upfront, they should tell you straight away if something isnt covered, not wait for you to make a claim then reject you. that's criminalGet advice from a lawyer, as they effectivly havent provided you with insurance for a year, yet happily took your money.
