When I picked up my 2009 FG XR6T 3 weeks ago I had no insurance for my ole bomb I traded in, so had to go with a new policy, my biggest mistake was to not hunt around for insurance as I didn't have the time and opted with the insurance mob that the dealer goes with.

$2506 for the year with Swann (St George Motor vehicle insurance).

Got off the phone with QBE (I have a policy with them for my Bike which was almost written off last year) and the quote for the XR6T was $997 for the year.

I dont understand shannons. I did a quote through them and they said they couldnt insure me as the car was my daily... but the ad says they "even insure your daily drive"

also, it pays to shop around even if you get a good deal. my friends lil toy yaris went from $800 to $950... she rang up a few places and got it down to $600... then rang her insurer back and they matched it. lol.

do you have a bad driving record or something?

that seems rather high for the limited use

perfect record maybe the 2168 postcode hurts it a bit

I was also surprised with insurance with a xr turbo. I am 21 and have had my fg mk2 turbo for around 5 months (got it brand new). I got quotes from a lot and by far the racq quote was cheapest. altho I have a high performance and age excess on top of my regular excess of 600. I found racq was at least 300 bucks cheaper than the rest.

SGIO is shocking. Renewal for house insurance was higher than taking out a new policy with them! So much for customer loyalty. They just prey on the fact people will renew their existing policy each year. They would have beaten RAC's quote by 10% but I still chose RAC for my car insurance.

Protip: Always look around for quotes each year before renewing, INCLUDING your current insurer!

You realise that you get a waiver period with most insurance policies for the first month? So you could probably refund the insurance one and take out one with QBE!

I realised this because when I bought my car in Melbourne I had to take out a full policy to get it home and I was able to refund it when I got home and then shop around for quotes
