After hearing all this I'm happy I live in the slackest state for rules on young drivers. I'm 19 on my p2's I bought an 05 xr6 turbo ute and claimed aftermarket rims. Massive intercooler and ss air induction etc. My premium was about 1700 on rating 2. But the excess is about 1650 which I thought was huge until seeing some of the numbers here!

$620 comprehensive with Budget Direct. Less than $100 more than my missus pays for her 2008 Mazda 6 wagon. Budget Direct was top-rated by Cannex (www.cannex.com.au) Very, very happy with them, and they want to undercut AAMI too on our home insurance.

Budget direct are only interested in low to medium risk customers which counts alot of us out

Damn I just pay over 1000 for mine through AAMI

You wont like this one then...

AAMI

G6ET Full Comp agreed value $50,400 with a 'purchase price' of $46,000.

$66.71 a month.

It's cheaper by 20 a month over my SSV Ute.

I could go out now write it off and come away with a more expensive car....

Fark I pay a little bit more than that for the Phoon and it's 4 years old with AAMI

Must be the dodgy suburb and the mods listed on the policy :innocent:

Went through getting a bunch of quotes a while ago, so thought I would add this in. Included a couple of the 'newer' insurance places. There's probably differences between these guys in the fine print, but I tried to keep all the quotes as similar as possible. Basically, unmodified BFIII XR6T, no 'extras' (eg windscreen, hire car etc), no drivers except me (eg no underage), and $1000-1100 excess. I'm in Sydney North Shore area and a middle aged fart (don't call me an old fart!), so ymmv.

  • aami: Ended up going with them as they were significantly cheaper - ~$800. Seems they are well regarded here, mod friendly if I get the urge.
  • coles: Were about the same as aami, so I suspect they may be a rebrand from the same insurer?
  • budget direct: About 25% more than aami.
  • payasyourdrive.com.au: I was interested about this as I do low kms. They will happily let you spend 5 minutes taking all your details, and then when you click the 'Get Quote' button tell you 'we don't insure an xr6 turbo'. I told them what the car was in the first damn question!! :pooh:
  • cgu, nrma, youi and some of the other popular: Most about 50%+ more than AAMI
  • Justcar: About 120% more than what I'm paying. They really don't want my business....:dontknow:

I think AAMI must be on a bit of a discount blitz for my area/car/age group. I don't recall them ever being the lowest cost....Worth checking out.

BTW, I was thinking with all the bad things that happened in QLD, has anyone heard of any bad experiences with insurers re cars?
