plcains Member 49 Member For: 14y 4m 17d Posted 27/02/11 06:15 AM Share Posted 27/02/11 06:15 AM I think my total excess (including $1200 males under 21 age excess) is about 2.5-3k.

AAMI wanted $2850 with their standard excesses for a 2008 FG Turbo in my name.

For example, I hypothetically did quotes to see what it would be for me when I get a T (which will be after I get my Black's in October) and Just Cars would do me a 19 yo male in Northmead, NSW for $2800 on standard excesses and that was the cheapest (probs didn't help that I'm still on my P's, most wouldn't even offer a quote). If I increased my age one year to 20 then it dropped to $2430. If I did 19 yo in Blacktown though, they wanted $4960 As you can see, your locality has a bigger effect on your premium than your age. Basically, age only makes a difference when you move into a new bracket; there's often a large reduction when you turn 25 and 50.For my parents, NRMA is cheapest. For me though, insuring the same car they have under the same conditions, AAMI would be cheapest, so you really need to do the quotes yourself. Just because GIO is cheapest for one person doesn't mean they are for the next. Edited 03/03/11 01:21 AM by PookeyMaster

The bottom line depends on the vehicle value, driver's age, driving record, where the car is parked/garaged, excess amount, and if it is driven to and from work everyday. A lot of variables are involved, and remember, an insurance company is only as good as the service they provide in case you ever need to make a claim. As Confucious once said, "The bitter taste of poor quality/service lingers long after a cheap price is forgotten".I received my best price from YOUI, and I found their service to be excellent when I had to make a claim last year. A P-plater ran into the back of my car while doing heads down texting. But then again, my wife and I are both a bit older than you, so our circumstances and insurance premiums are going to be completely different. A lot of the young blokes who frequent the forum swear by AAMI. Let us know who/what you end up with in the way of insurance and enjoy your new Ute! Had to make a claim on someone side swiping our Toyota Apollo (this was a little while ago ) and they did a good job - repair was good and didn't take long to process. Helps that they give a discount for years of membership in the RACV as well. And wow - over $2k for a years insurance

They wanted $1850 for an XR6 N/A (same excess, driver, etc.) and it costs $1010 for Dad to insure our old '93 Falcon with me and my younger sister listed as drivers. If I decided to drive a less powerful car, I'm sure the premium would be less, but my heart's set on a T once I get my Black's after having a drive of a mate's XR6T. We have Ford Focus's and Hyundai i30's at work and they are slugs compared to the Falcon (which has nothing on the T). Just have to decide between a XR6T or G6ET... Insurance for the G6ET is cheaper than the XR6T as well. The woman at NRMA said its cause the XR has a "sports car" premium added that the G6 doesn't have. Try Coles insurance, I have max NCB and it was half the price of JC, paying $83 per month... They also valued the car for 4k more and have $350 less on the excess.
