Hey,

Ive had my XR6 Turbo for a couple months. When I turn it on and the car is idling the engine makes a ticking sound is this normal?

When I bought the car it squeals when you brake and the guy said it will do this because the brakes are new, I've noticed that there is black residue on my rims which I think may be from the brakes?

My last question, should I get the center muffler removed from my xr6 turbo, when I went to the mechanic he said that it will cause a lot of drone and he said his price is $175 SE in melbourne?

If anybody can give me some feedback it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Not sure on the ticking noise, could be a few different things. Where exactly is it from?

Brake squealing a massive problem with these things! Mine are so friggin bad and nothing I tried will stop it. The black residue is only brake dust. It can't be stopped, but it will wash off easily and isn’t anything to worry about, it happens with every car.

Removing the center mufflers doesn’t cause drone. I got mine done for $150 so you are on the money.

the engine ticking is normal

the black residue on your wheels is called brake dust, all cars get it, and some pads give you more or less dust..

with the muffler put some hot dogs in it and it will not drone as much, $175 sounds a bit pricey to just take out the center muffler

Load of crap. Brakes don't squeal just because they're new.

How do you brake?

Do you apply firmly or ride them like a nanna?

If the brakes are new and were riden like a nanna they are probably glazed. This will cause the squealing sound.

A lot of different factors could be contributing to the squeal. eg. type of pad, disc condition, glazed pads.

Check all of these out.

Hey my mechanic said they heat up real quick for some reason, I think the car has the premium brake package and he said that this was a common problem with these cars. But ve also noticed the squealing sound has gotten quieter or maybe im getting use to it.
