Win number 9 was after he lodged a proted against the 1st and 2nd placed Sierras for running incorrect door trims. The winning cars wer disqualified without a right to apeal.

Watching the DVDs on the history of Bathurst those Sierras were booted for running illegal fuel not door trims.

There have been three theories, one was the door trims, the other the wheel arches, another fuel.

I remember vividly watching the race, and it was definatly Brock and his team who lodged the protest. Fuel can't be right because they made the decision immediatly after the race, they all pretty much get their fuel from the same source, and Brock and Co. wouldn't have had a clue as to what fuel they were running.

The biggest thing with the Sierra disqualification is that, it was determined after, there was no advantage, and the simple fact that they passed srcutineering before the race, in the exact same trim, with the same fuel as they used during the race. The team tried to appeal (as per the rules) based on the fact that they'd passed earlier scrutineering, but they were refused. You have to admit that the whole episode with the Sierras is a little odd.

My piont earlier was that the likes of Perkins and Richards have just as many legitimate, unassisted wins at Bathurst as Brock, yet they get almost no recognition for it. Brock certainly was good, but I'm just highlighting the fact that much of his status is the result of PR, and as time goes by, the greater he appears to have been ("The older I get, the better I was"). Bathurst is as much to do with luck as skill, look as Seaton, the greatest driver to never win on the mountain.

While I'm on the topic of Sierras, did you know that Dick Johnson used to run 'grenade' engines in his Sierras for Bathurst qualifying. They'd wind the boost up to around 30lbs, get over 600 bhp, then change the motors for the race. This is one of the reasons they changed the rules to penalise cars that change engines.
