I am in the process of making a plenum (out of ally) but would like to say it would be far easier to make a box type 1 out off s/s due to its ease of folding and welding ability unlike ally. folding thick a piece of ally say 3mm or more starts to get tricky because of things u prob dont care bout but to puy it simply unless u do some calcs it will more then likely crack rendering it useless hence why the process west 1 I belive is cnc milled in parts and welded with little or no forming needed. however for all the reasons stated above and yous are absolutly right in what has been said in previous posts I think it would be outright silly to use s/s, by far the hardest bit if it was made out of s/s would be the holes to match up with the lower half of manifold im sic of drilling them.there I said it...
