Correct tab. When the VE Late model camira was launched, Expensive Daewoo slashed prices on VZ HSV stock, they were selling them for $49,990 drive away (Clubsports). This in turn killed resale value on VY and Early VZ product, and I mean really killed it. Expensive Daewoo dealers weren't interested in trading them and to be honest, neither were Ford dealers...

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction - this is true in every facet of life

Problem is that either manufacturer will in the end sell their cars for peanuts when the end of model or in HSV's case, over stock. So paying retail straight up yourself you are just losing that extra 5-10 grand when you get screwed on resale in the future anyway.

If the manufactures held their ground then resale shouldn't be a problem.

Unfortunately its not the manufacturer, its the dealers cutting their own throats

That's why they're a little smarter in the UK.

They register them ans sell them as 2nd hand, that way they don't butcher the new car market.

Here many or the dealers are idiots. The Ford dealer near my work puts the original, full ticket retail price on all of their 2nd hand cars stating it's the original price, under that they have their 2nd hand price (usually half or less than the full ticket retail price that no one would have paid in the first place). How the hell are they expected to sell ne cars while in the same yard they are showing over inflated, abysmal resale values?

The manufacturers really need to get their acts into gear for their own good.

On top of it all, neither Ford or Holden (the biggest victoms of the high fuel prices) have done nothing to promote their large cars now that fuel is cheaper and interest rates are lower. Ford hasn't even made mention of the FGs superior (if marginal) fuel economy.

Unfortunatly, if they do go under, they really only have themselves to blame.

Mate you don't get it do you. Half the globe is in recession, and yes we are heading for one in 2009 wether you like it or not. Interest rates and fuel can be as cheap as chips, doesn't make one difference when the economy has gone into negative growth. People are being laid off every day as we speak. 2009 will be a very tough year. When you don't have a job, you can't afford to buy any new car let alone an FPV or HSV. So this stupid argument about promoting products means SFA. What they can do though to target those few in the economy during these times that have a bit of disposable cash is to sweeten the deal by dropping there prices. If you don't like the resale on your used Ford or Expensive Daewoo taking a hit, then either don't buy new or don't pay full price!

Either way you look at it they are still a relative performance bargain compared to the likes of AMG, BMW M series and Audi RS. 67k for 310kw (and then some) is a pretty sweet deal compared to what price you had to pay for a 310kw car 5 or 10 years ago

Gave a local dealer a try to see what sort of deal they'll do for an F6 with only the brembo upgrade and floor mats. Best that could be offered was around 69 grand on road. He wasn't impressed when I offered 57 grand :stupid:
