Well I was driving the car today every thing running fine pulled up for some ice cream and as soon as the revs droped off, the car made this f*cking loud "rock in a tin can" noise. At first I thought rod but then as soon as the revs get up past 1500-2000 rpm the noise is gone.

So I drove the fcker home anyway and every set off lights or when I stoped and the revs died off the tin can noise would happen, buy the time I got home it was even louder than when it started.

So I jacked the car up, put it on stand's and begain to check the flex plate bolts, they all seemed fine(tight) but every time I moved the fly wheel, inside where the flex plate is you could hear a clicking sound, so I have I broken some thing off in there? there was a liitle oil or fluied stain aswell but nothing major.

Any ideas ive got some one looking at it tomorrow but maybe it will be a trip back to pitlane.

Not sure if you know but you can't have a flex plate and a flywheel on the same engine.

Flex plate if it's an auto or flywheel if it's a manual.

If it's a manual, could it be the thrust bearing assembly?

If it's an auto, could be loose convertor to flexplate mounting bolts.

Need some more info to try and work out what it is mate.

Have you checked out the exhaust system? eg. loose heat shields.

Auto mate, the bols on the flexplate where tight, so some thing is broken.

Hey mate, similar thing happened to me on Thursday night. The car was driving fine but with a massive noise when the revs were under 1500. I was told by my tuner that the metal particles in my had cat broke, however my cat had done under 20km lol. When I exited a roadwork area and tried to accelerate to the new speed limit (I didn't nail it) it just revved like it was in neutral. When I rolled into the next side street I realized I had lost all drive and reverse gears. The car still starts but with no movement and the sound is still there.

I just got the car towed today to a mates to get his retired old man to try fix it for me.

If we can work out what it is ill let ya know and visa-versa. Hopefully its not too much as I just forked out to get a bit of work done :(.

Yeah no worries dude let me know how it goes! Hopefully its not too serious.. Was your auto noisey in park and on idle as well or just when it was in gear? At the moment when my car starts up there is a massive rattle at the start then the noise dies down when the revs drop.

Having said this when the problem initially started and I had all the gears it sounded like a noisy tractor when the revs were down but normal when they were up.

Yeah mate P,N drive it rattled all the time but as soon as the revs got up, no noise at all. It would drive fine aswell, just a massive fcking rattle every time I stoped or got under 1500..

ill let ya know either way mate :spoton:

you need to listen via tube to see where the noise is coming from..

does the car stall, ie, do you have to hold revs up??

could be

1) slightly bent rods

2) cat

3) auto's convertor
