Yep, DavoWA hit the nail on the head.

I liked the 18's but I always kew they would be expensive to re-shoe. I had no idear that they would be around $640 though :nugget:

I was also concerned that if I optioned 18's the ride would have been significantly more harse. Sure, the T is a sports car, but 99.8% of the driving I do it is never pushed to it's limits....yet.... :ermm:

Knowing my luck I would have bloody hit a keb with my 18's in the first week and been looking for a new rim as well.

Regards,

isher

After a little "unplanned off-road excursion" in my T, I had to get 2 replacement tyres for my 18's. I asked for Dunlop SP9000's and was quoted $595 each. To cut a long story short, I ended up getting some Hankooks for $300 each. These prices were from my local Bridgestone Tyre Centre (the closest tyre place to my house). I'm sure that if people shop around and maybe buy during a sale they could get cheaper still.

I've had the Hankooks on the front of my car for a couple of months now and haven't noticed any difference than with the Dunlops.

I was reading the trading post the other day as my 18s are nearlly done [20000km] and a few companies are advertiseing these sizes for about $220.I know these would be no comparison to the grip and ride of the OEM tyre but they are out there in different brands for this price. For my purposes as I do heaps of km and think a harder compound tyre would not be such a bad idea,To last abit longer in tread wear anyway.Had the same thing with my last XR8 after 20000km and fitted some Hankooks and got 40000km out of them. The OEM tyre is great but not for the that price.

18's are much more common on Aussie cars now than they were just a couple of years back. The VY SS is the first Commie to have them standard so hopefully as the demand for them increases by the time we need to buy replacements, there will be more available and at a better price.

Its a pity Expensive Daewoo use 235's and Ford use 245's though as that would have helped supply and choice.

Re iterateing what Mondie said, with most of Holdens performance cars comming with 18" wheels the demand should increase a little more, which must result at some stage in the price, saving us a couple of bucks.

So when I take delivery of my XR6T in september, I will only be able to give it some stick then roll around the place which may save a bit of rubber.
