Guest CANOPUS Guests Posted 30/07/03 09:49 AM Share Posted 30/07/03 09:49 AM In 94, I bought a new HSV VR Clubsport that came with Bridgestone Expedia 235x45xZR17.Back then they cost $550 each and there were very little other options.17" now common with lots of choice and reasonably priced - my guess 18" will go the same way over time.Just make sure you get max k's out them now - pressure is critical; 40psi plus! Guest 56Mainline Guests Posted 01/08/03 10:35 AM Share Posted 01/08/03 10:35 AM I priced tyres back in Dec '02 to assist in decisions when optioning the 'T'.Back then the cheapest of three local tyres dealers quoted me $526 for the 18" SP9000's & $246 for the 17"'s. I reported this in a thread way back then...I'll be suprised if prices have gone up to $600, but I will check! The dealers at the time, said that the prices will come down as the 18"s are becoming more popular!
Guest Trevor Guests Posted 02/08/03 04:02 AM Share Posted 02/08/03 04:02 AM Guys, this might help,I got the 17's on my T as I couldn't justify the extra expense. A mate of mine in the same boat also has 17's, howevr they both have different tyres. He has the SP9000's but mine has SP3000's.I spoke to the local Dunlop dealer to find out why. ANSWER: The SP9000 is the OEM tyre but there was a supply problem so Ford fitted the SP3000 instead. IMO this is a better option, the 9000 is a directional tyre so can only be rotated front to rear. The 30000 can go from side to side as it only has to be fitted to the rim "outwards facing". The 3000's on mine perform just as well for the spirited driving I undertake and from what the Dunlop guys said it is only 1 grade of tyre down from the 9000.THE BEST NEWS: Replacement Tyre quotes - SP9000, around $600. SP3000, $270 - 330.I'll stick to the SP3000's thanks.

I too took the "cheaper" option as I could not justify paying more up front on the 18" for the "pleasure" of paying more per year to replace the rubber. Guest Guests Posted 02/08/03 06:40 AM Share Posted 02/08/03 06:40 AM What is so teriffic about 18/19 inch rims compared to the 17" Is bigger better ,performance wise ? or is it just for looks. My17" do the job nicley thank you very much, even though they do sound like an over pumped basket ball bounced on concrete.
