My17" do the job nicley thank you very much, even though they do sound like an over pumped basket ball bounced on concrete. Vik,The 18" rims are required for the premium brake package, or for any other larger replacement rotors. From a grip point of view, the 18's have a larger swept area (a larger patch of tyre on the road at any one time) and therefore provide slightly more grip (in theory).I preferred the look of the larger wheels under the car.3 differences I can think of for the 18's.Replacing the b@astards is gonna hurt though. Cheers,Miyagi Had Hankook tyres on the previous car in a 17" 40 series size.Wear was better (36,000km when sold, still with half tread) and grip seemed as good as the Dunlops. That 36,000km also included 3 track days - 2 at Wakefield, and one at Queensland Raceway.JamieXR6 has the 18" Falkens on his T and hates them with a passion - say's they're the worst tyres he's every owned, but I have no personal experience with the brand. My 18" SP9000's are due for replacement right now afer 43,000km, and best quotes I've gotten in Sydney are in the $550-$560 region.Jax tyres quoted me $256 each for the same size Hankook K104 - the tyre that came equal 1st with the Falken in their performance tyre test last year, the same test that the Dunlop SP9000 came 8th in...The Dunlops are supposed to be the premium tyre in the range, but twice the price for an 8th place finish versus half the price for equal 1st makes you wonder... Unfortunately its the first thing every dealer will tel you "what you want Premium Brakes ahhh you will also need the 18's then ......"

Posted 25/05/04 07:54 AM Share Posted 25/05/04 07:54 AM Hot off the Press.......Trendsetters!!!!Toyo Trampio's 245/40ZR18 are $280 fitted/balanced. My mate has got them on his 322KW XR6T and reckons they are great, 2nd gear full throttle and they grab, no loss of traction, and when I say he is a maniac it's an understatement. I'll be getting these when my Dunlops are worn out, I'll be lucky to get 15,000 out of the back tyres, and the Toyos life expectancy is as good if not better than the Dunlops too! Don't forget to price the old "Harry Hancooks" . I was contemplating using them when the 18inch Dunlops wore out too quick, quoted $250 each for 245/45/18s fitted and balanced. But luckily Mr Dunlop agreed that 15,000klm was too short and gave me a huge discount. Maybe the WA roads wear them out quicker Al?

You get what you pay for most of the time but still shop around. I wouldn't put sp9000's on my car because I couldn't be happier with what I've got.
