AWD.

Brian has nailed it, it's a traction issue, we all know the slow in fast out cornering theory;

If you're putting 200Kw's down on two wheels, that 100KW per wheel and if the limit

before you loose traction (and spin) is 80 KW, well, you back off the throttle a bit.

an AWD puts the 200Kw down 50 per wheel, no loss of traction, more power down, faster round the corner.

Most modern AWD's have active centre diffs that apportion the power to the wheels with the most grip,

This just makes them even faster as the power goes to any of the 4 wheels that aren't slipping.

Yes Oversteer is fun (but it's the slower way round a corner) funny, the EVO overdersteers with power off

on a tight corner and understeers with power on.

Found out why when I saw the photo's the inside rear wheel was ~ 6 inches off the ground.

with all things being equal, the AWD will be quicker, no question.
