Our XR6T has finally arrived,

We placed an order on the 21-5-2003 for a white XR6T manual with big brakes,

Sound and sports steering wheel and got told it would be here in Adelaide in the second to third week of July and guess what it turned up Friday at the holding yard in Adelaide and will be delivered to the dealer on Monday morning.

We got told buy the dealer in early June of the start of build date as the 11th of July 2003 ….1 week to build the car and 3 to 4 days at FPV.

Got talking to the stock controller at the dealer ship on Friday at there BBQ and asked her about all the things I have heard about people waiting 3 to 6 months or more for there cars and why is this so!

Her reply was when we receive your deposit for the car, an order is raised with Ford in Melbourne the same day and within a week Ford sends conformation to the dealer with the specs of the car, sido number and commence of build date.

She said a lot of other dealers do exactly the same but also if they can sell your car for more money they will and tell you some excuse why it is going to be late.

She said when we get the deposit for your car we order it and if someone wants to pay more for a car they go on the list just like anyone else and wait the same time for it, she said profit should not be an issue, its customer service that is.

She also emphasized that Ford don’t change dates for when the car is going into production and options are facted into it as well by making sure the stock is on hand to build the car. This system has to be 100% to help in the smooth running of the production lines.

By the way we saved nearly $5000 of the price of the car.

To all you people waiting more then 8 weeks for your car, phone Ford direct, go to the ACCC and speak to a current affairs show about the scam…..it should be STOPPED.

olcoolone,

Glad to hear your car is at the dealer.

IMO

With all due respect to you and your info source. This is rubbish.

Each dealer get allocated a certain number of each model per month (a few months in advance). Once they sell that car then they are forced to wait by ford to the next allocation. So if dealers take orders for 5 XR6T's in one month and they only get given 2 in their allocation they then must wait for the next allocation and put their existing orders against those allocation. The only other way is for them to beg other dealers to swap allcoation with a fairmont or something for example. So you see, it is just nor possible for a dealer to place an order against Ford (as you suggest) and get the car the next month. I would like to suggest that you happen to be lucky and the dealer "had" a allocated car that was not built yet and assigned your order to it.. :spacecraft:

I know of a dealer in our NW Melbourne that has one T on the lot and one on oder that have not been sold. So the next lucky guy that walks into that dealer can order a T and get what he wants (within reason)...

Hope you enjoy the T (I know you will) and please do not take this as a personal attack as I think you have been taken for a ride....

my 2c worth...

Good news olcoolone!

Have to agree with bdennis though. The dealership I went through could not get their hands on any more Ts for love or money - still can't by the look of their ad in the paper yesterday - immediate delivery on XR8s, one T ute for sale, one demo/trade-in XR6T and that's it

I agree with the above.

When I ordered my car, I tried one country dealer (I have a fleet deal) because we as a company try to spread the deals around our customers, but this dealer said he didn't want to use his allocation on a fleet deal because he already had a number of retail deals to get. His allocation was only 2 or 3 XR6Ts a year.

Another dealer had pretty ordinary sales so didn't mind. They both knew that the car wasn't going to be serviced by them either, so it's just a case of the dealership trying o retain as much margin as possible.

Yeah sorry olcoolone, but I think your source is telling you pork pies. :o I kicked up such a fuss over the delivery of my car that I have an e-mail from a Ford executive in Melbourne detailing how it all works which is the allocation method the guys are talking about. My dealer told me that they have no T's allocated by Ford for a 2-3 month period and as I go in and check regularly I can tell you that it's true.

Congrats on the car  tell us what it's like!

I was also told by a bloke at 13FORD that dealers get their allocations 3 months in advance e.g. In March they get their numbers for June etc. Don't know how true this is though, cause you can't trust anyone in this game.

KrasH> It's usually two months, but does vary due to factory shift variations, staff holidays which often coincide with school holidays etc. Around Xmas time for example some country dealers don't get allocations until four weeks prior - well, they do get allocations but not confirmation - there is a subtle difference and until confirmation is a done thing, the dealers are just not absolutely sure with some models particularly the Turbos.
