danthedixonman Member 13 Member For: 18y 10m 12d Gender: Male Location: Adelaide Posted 06/10/08 12:15 PM Share Posted 06/10/08 12:15 PM Hi guys - I'm having a hard time trying to find the right +12V wire to tap into for the Autometer Cobalt Boost/Vac gauge (#6159). The install guide says to find a switched +12V source that maintains power during engine cranking. This is where I've come unstuck. The power source in the tissue box area resets to 0 when I've checked with a multimeter and the mobile phone plug behind the fuse box also does this. There is a constant +12V which looks like a direct battery connection but I don't think it should be used for this case (won't it drain the battery?).Just after pointers by others that have installed this particular gauge. The problem with the wires I've tried is that the gauge resets itself when you switch to ACC as well as when you start the engine and then gives incorrect readings (idle is -8 and full boost on an unedited car is reading 10).Any help is greatly appreciated! Well I have a oil pressure and oil temp gauges that are electric and a mechanical boost. My oil temperature and oil pressure gauge have to be installed the same way. I connectted the +12 to a +12 wire near my ignition. (ACC) This is so when I turn the key on (ACC) the gauge has power and when you turn the key off its turns the gauge of also. and it works fine and I done this install on the weekend and works fine.
