the boxes are different between n/a and turbo/v8 they use a different gear set same as AU 6cyl and and a thicker anulas ring I think that's what it's called but there is significant internal differences put a N/A one behind a turbo and it will blow the gears to bits.

Yes they do give trouble if you don't respect them have them rebuilt properly or not tuned correctly

mine was rebuilt bit over a month ago and it's back in for the 3rd time with problems was on my way to sydney for the long weekend and it blew the torque converter seal out lost all it's oil and drive and left us stuck on the side of the freeway was not happy! all because the guy didn't make sure the seal was the correct size.

Unfortunatly I had no choice on who rebuilt my gearbox it was done under warrenty through my work but shop around and make sure you find someone who knows these boxes seems that melbourne has the majority on specialist for these boxes.

I was chatting to Brad about this my trans cooler has blown into my radiator now I have a milk shake and a blown box been told the glue in the box is water based and once its in there needs a rebuild I have here this is very common.

I have extended warranty and they have declined it because the trans cooler is what damaged the box so I need to get a second hand box or recon box. I called around all day Friday getting prices on and second hand and recon boxes. I have been told by alot of guys there different that the stall converter and planetary are stronger and I have also been told they are the same?

I am shore they are different as I called some ford dealers and get them to tell me who they send there warranty boxes to and most of them told me they were different. calling blind I got alot of mixed answers. also told to vent the stock trans cooler and get get an after market one. I also have to get a new radiator and a engine flush.

BTW a mate told me the NA 4 speed is in the territory and the turbo territory and share the same part number.

so I am hoping to get some more reply's so settle this.

hey fellas, the V8 box is a 97LE,

the turbos and NAs are 93LEs

I couldn't see anything in the manual that listed different parts, it only lists differences between a 93LE and 97LE.

however I have the manual here if anyone wants to read it word for word.

Cheers,

MaTTe
