Hi,

I have a BF XR6 and I which I am about to put a full Herrod Stainless steel syetsm on because of a warranty issue with Ford not wanting to replace the existing cat. convertor. I was just about to have the system installed when I found that their was a major issue with the head which was sent back and is now being fixed under warranty.

The only reason for the exhaust is that a factory cat costs $1100 apparently and a full system is not that much more expensive. Once I get it back it needs a new exhaust striaght away as it is just about to give up, and I was advised not to drive it.

My question is once I fit the exhaust & headers I know that my warranty on the engine will be gone. I was just wondering what the risk of doing this is? What problems have people found to be common on the BF platform? At the end of the day its a relatively new car and how many more things could possibly go wrong in 7 months...

Cheers

Brett.

What is the build date of your car?

If your head is being fixed under warranty then why is the cat convertor not being done also?

the cars warranty is up in april 09. its an 06 BF XR6.

The cat is not being replaced because the owner before me had a small section of pipe replaced just behind the cat where the oxygen sensor meets. Apparantly this void warranty on the whole exhaust system. For a guess the car might have been out in the country and something has damaged it so it was replaced quickly and not through Ford. Since then the Cat has decided to give up and has made the engine light appear on dash.

Rather than spending $1100 on Fords cat only, I decided to get a complete Herrod system. When the guys at the exhaust shop were about to install it they found the head leaking, so the exhaust was not installed and the car was taken straight to Ford.

I just dont want another major thing like a head going in a short period of time if I fit the Herrod. I just seem to have run into a bit of bad luck with 2 things happening in a very short time frame.

The cat is stuffed. Ford looked at it already and it is rattling really badly. The oxygen sensor was not removed either. Both are still on the car and working correctly hence picking up the issue with the existing cat.

Where do we start?? Its a Ford, which means its can be alot of fun but not reliable.

Got the same car in a T with a whole bunch of unfixable problems and plenty of Fraud excuses.

I'm thinking of fitting the new exhaust including the cat and headers but not having it tuned. That way I can change back to the old exhaust at any time if I need a warranty job done. Only problem is that being a BF the orange engine light will come on dash due to the oxygen sensor.

Do you think it would be ok to just drive around with that light on for a few months until warranty is basically up, or is it too risky and I might miss a 'real' problem because of it?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

If your worried about losing your warranty then don't change a thing, especially if its going to run out soon.

As it's been said on here before, you play you pay. I stressed about warranty issues for a long time, but after reading about all of the mods that people have done to their rides I said stuff the warranty and changed a few things.

My motor made some horrible noises on the weekend and I thought sh*t no warranty. but as it turned out it was only the flex plate that came loose and Ford picked up the tab. THANKYOU FORD

It's a risk you take I guess.

Mate, if I was you I'd change the exhaust and rest easy.

If your worried about warranty on your engine then don't be unless something goes wrong with it that can be directly attributed to your aftermarket exhaust system.

For example.

A valve spring lets go and you drop a valve smashing a window in the side of the block in the process.

This will be warranty as your exhaust system has no affect on the valve springs.

Get the picture?

But Ford will use this and many other excuses to avoid such warranty work. Becomes very frustrating and very expensive.
