Not quite. It actually peaked at 12.9 psi and quite regularly saw as much as 12.5 psi.

I put this boost pressure down to the new overboost function associated with the FG.

It actually droped down to around the 6 psi mark on most of the the runs.

Hey Guys, I fitted my air intake last night and have mixed feelings about it. The exhaust note seems a little different now, probably a bit deeper and louder. I can here more of a whistle from the turbo but not a huge amount. So in that respect I am happy.

When boost comes on though its feels like it comes on a little earlier but I can tell its not peaking as high as it use to. It doesnt throw me into the seat as much. More linear power but not as peaky. Is it quicker with the mod... probably but it doesnt feel as fast because the power is smoother.... To be honest I think the only thing that would notice the difference dramtically would be a Dyno. I can only feel a little difference down low.

Does this sound right guys or am I full off it. Looking at the dyno graph though I was right about the boost.

Oh the other thing I was going to tell you was a few weeks ago I got a pod filter from a mate to borrow and put it on and just sat it in the bottom of the airbox. So the top was exposed. I drove it for 5 mins just to hear the difference. Massive flutter..... Sounded great but I dont like the idea of all the hot air so I took it off very quickly...

Mate, I'd get my ears checked if I were you. I din't notice any reasonable difference to exhaust note, intake whistle or 'push back' into the seat.

Your original post stated you don't care how much more power you get, you just want more induction sound.

If this is the case, I doubt you will achieve it with these components alone.

I'm not so sure I agree with your statement of ' I can only feel a little difference down low'.

If you refer back to my dyno chart you can see that up until approx 3800rpm there is pretty much nothing in it.

Only after about 4000rpm there is a rise in power.

I wouldn't exactly class this as down low.

However, each car will have it's own characteristics and as I don't know what sort of ambient temps or fuel you're using your comments could be very well founded.

As for your exhaust note. Huh??

How would your exhaust sound any different if you didn't do anything to it? :o

Mate I havnt had any Dyno test on the car and I wont be getting one done so I cant give you any power figures. And like I said I didnt do it for power. As for induction sound I definatley can notice a difference.... Even the oldman commented on it... As you load up the motor the turbo whistle is heaps louder and when you back of the gas you can here much more of a BOV sound. So I am happy.

The exhaust note doe seem different to me but whether I am just imagining things could be possible..... It does seem to burble more when you take your foot of the gas from high revs.

I wouldnt buy one of these expecting a noticable power upgrade.

To be honest I dont care wether you belive me or not... I can definatley here more induction sound.

Fair enough.

If your happy with the result no worries.

My not noticing any additional induction noise could be due to the fact I drive with my windows up at all times.

I can't comment on the blow off valve noise as I have a Turbosmart blow off valve.

This thread was started asking whether or not the larger lower section of the airbox and snorkel from the V8 induction system made an increase in power to the XR6T.

I think the question has been answered.

Planning on getting a custom tune done on my FGT in Nov and was thinking of installing one of these before the tune. Now I'm a newbie so whats involved in installing this aibox. Do any of the std components need to be mofdified? Mine is leased thru work so I'm just mindful if it will effect my insurance.

Thanks,

Vic

Nah, its easy mate, you get the lower half of the airbox and the snorkle and simply swap them with the original stuff - same holes and same screws.
