The job I'm tryin to get onto is a 5 year tender with the option for a possible extention, so working on the ~$140-$150,000 starting wage, I could easily be mortage free after say 5 years, then bang I'm set for life I can re-train in a different field or stay in rail, can get into the family business etc etc. Having no mortage which from what I gather consumes the bulk of most peoples income wouls make the rest of my life enjoyable and I could start a family without having to worry about interest rates etc etc.Look at Dean he has to run the Rocko slurry-house after hours to keep up with the mortage payments. O and Im probably crazy but I like the idea of just going up north to the hot, smelly bumhole and just going nuts, then getting a decent break with no work whatsoever ie: 2&1 FIFO 's on 5&2 DIDO like I'm doing atm. This has become an employment seminar but yep cheers for the responces guys Yep, no worries. Just as long as you're not rushing off naively. There are good opportunities in and around Perth, it's just finding them that's tricky, 'cause no one tells you about them... Hit me up for a freebie if you're still on your V plates after your 18th Kael :bum:Na seriously, if you can do what you're planning it's well worth it! It's when you start buying lots of toys & getting hard into the booze up there that you'll be stuck with a big mortgage & lots of other debt

If you disicplined and spend/ invest wisely you could hammer you mortgage in 7 to 10 years but even that is a challange once you have the $'s in your pocket and start using your cash to get what every 18 year old boy wants....... Average mortgage is 400ish grand which mean you will be paying (at the current 7.8%) 31200 a year in interest, now to get anywhere signifigant you'll want to pay at least double so budget 62400, this will pay off $312000 in 5 odd years if you can maintain it. Now assuming the work doesnt dry up you wont be debt free but you will be in a nice position for the future if you maintain your commiments and goals. All too many people get caught up in the easy money fifo, at work/on holidays life style and wind up working away to support the lifestyle, look at how many utes you see getting around with dirt bikes and jet ski's in them and behind them.....Ask me how i know about this..... By all means go for it mate just don't get caught up.
Guest Guests Posted 20/10/08 12:31 PM Share Posted 20/10/08 12:31 PM Wow. No bull, mate, never heard of that happening from any of the senior guys that I work with. I worked on a job that went over budget (read lots over...). Neither I nor the other two drafties on the job copped it. All fell on the engineers' head. So I'm not talking sh*t.Is this drafty an independent contractor doing his own thing, or does he work for a company? 'Cause all our drawings get checked by senior drafties and engineers. And the engineer that approves it has his head on the chopping block. Where I'm working, myself and all the other drafties only have to worry about the deadline.in construction architect draws it, engineer specifies whats required to stop sh*t falling down. Drafty (company of draftsmen or self employed person) details and produces shop drawings for manufactor , bolt connects, members, purlins, tilt panels etc. if drafty get dimensions and stuff wrong its is on his head and his head alone. engineer will certify that the designs meet structural requirents, ie steel thickness is right, correct bolts are used etc. but not the the design fits or dimensions are right.profession indemnity insurance covers damages, but premiums go up. Sounds dodgy though. Something like that should be picked up in thorough drafting checks, sent out for client approval(!!!) and then the drawings should be issued.
