G'day folks, sorry if this has been asked before, but;

Are there any mechanical differences between the BA and BF F6's?? I am aware that BF's came with the 4 pot Brembo's as standard where they were optional on the BA's (WTF).... but is there anything else?

For ages I have wanted a ZF auto F6 or XR6T when the dream eventually eventuates because the MANual in my current car is just such a POS I have been put off... however driving some T56 equipped Crumpledores and more recently a BA F6, I've realised that I can live with it and therefore will look at a BA F6 in the not too distant future. I'm interested in BA F6's because personally I find them to be a great deal more attractive and muscular especially in the front bar... not to mention the relative age SHOULD make them more affordable.

Also, I'm wondering if anyone could help with a current rough ballpark price guestimate that I should expect to pay for an 04 or 05 BA Phoon with a few options like leather, Brembo's and the chunky FPV steering wheel? I can live without the big brakes and maybe even the leather, but I cannot drive an FPV or even an XR for that matter without that big chunky mofo FPV steering wheel. I actually saw/drove a dealer BA F6 with all the above options on Friday with an asking price of $32,990 which was one of the cheapest on carsales.com. The only problem was the mileage which was at 103,000. Any thoughts on that price? I wouldent buy that particular F6 as it was Merc Silver and I’m only interested in shockwave or Narooma blue like this members work of art/... I mean car.

Is there any other things between the BA/F F6's? Any help or thoughts would be :censored:

Cheers Kael

F6 only came out in BA mkII, 6-speed manual only until the BF. There were never any F6s with 5-speed manuals or 4-speed autos.

Cheers Tab... Any other differences?? Are the valve springs the same as the weak softies used on the BA XR's or are they stronger like the BF XR & BF F6 ones???

Also what does everyone think of the Phoon mentioned above? And does anyone have a rough guestimate of the life on one of these engines? I'd be expecting to have to do the turbo and bottom end at around 2 hungee thousand kays... am I close there?... I know it will vary depending upon power level and treatment... Not much point getting a cheaper Phoon if the bottom end is going to go after a few more kays IMO.

Oh and does anyone also know any other places apart from carsales.com or the newspapers to look for a Phoon?

Thanks for everyones help...

Kael :stirthepot:

Hey mate. if you look after the car and don't flog the sh*t out of it all the time and you do regular and through services these engines do last a long time. My car has done 150,000 and has had a edit for over 50,000 running 10psi and no probs yet, touch wood. Just be aware the old saying you play you pay. If you start to modify them you can't expect nothing to go wrong.

Hi Kael,

They are an excellent deal now, and I could not justify the extra money people are charging for manual BFs... just for better brakes and a new plastic front and rear valance.

that's my 2 cents ;-)

I bought mine as the prices are really low. My BA2 has full leather, sunroof, factory tint, prem sound (I think is std?) and only 56,000kms on the clock - I paid alot less than $33K (it was an exceptionally unbelievable deal and circumstance!) - see: http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=50202

I do LOVE the black wheels on that blue one posted above! btw I cant tell if it has leather from that pic, but leather was essential for me... they are the best seats in the range for luxury AND support!

good luck mate

Yeah mate I agree... for me the valance's are half the reason I want a BA over a BF... it just seems more attractive and while more plain than that on the BF, looks tougher IMO... plus there’s the price factor :)

Had a look on your thread a few mins after it was posted hey, bloody mint car and you obviously got an awesome deal to get that car with little KM's at less than $33k... good job indeed

If I thought your car looked good; I absolutely melted when I saw the one in the post above, those are actually 19" GT wheels custom painted and on the smooth blue they are projectile orgasm material IMO.

Thanks for the reply, Kael :hohum:

The BA's with Brembo's have 4 pot front,a nd 4 pot rear calipers, the BFs with standard Brembo's have 4 pot front, single pot rear as far as I remember, if you got the premium brakes you got the bigger rear calipers.

If we are talking the Manual Trans equipped versions there isnt much difference mechanicly, if we talk manual vs ZF auto then there is a little bit different to help with the change to auto with the different trans cooling, ratios etc etc.

Since you want a BA you'd be stuck with the T56, but if you go BF illd go with the auto, they are a fantastic gearbox, silky smooth and reliable.

Having said that the manual box in the FG's is pretty much the same as in a Dodge Viper!
