G'day,

Thanks for starting this forum.

I never thought I'd be seriously interested in a Ford. I mean I'd prefer a Ford over a Holden, but the new XR6T looks like a great performance car. Up there with the VL turbo, wrx, 200sx. Bang for buck material, ripe for the afermarket.

I drive an s15 200sx, but maybe I'll get a xr6t for work, and enjoy the 200sx for sunday fangs and track days.

I spoke to APS today and asked them if they're thinking of developing a kit for the xr6t. They said they were considering it, but apparently there are concerns over the gearbox and whether it can handle much more torque than it already has. There are rumours that gearbox issues may be delaying the release... Dunno how true that is, but the XR8 is getting the Mustang spec Tremec, maybe they should have slotted that in instead. Of course cost would go up.

Anyway, I look forward to test driving this beast, and also reading the reviews and watching the after market.

Cheers

I believe the gearbox is one of the reasons why Torque is limited to 450NM and boost is pretty much cut off at 5250 RPM, that not wanting to out do the V8s, and giving them scope some enhancements further down the track.

Oddly enough, I've got an S-15 in the garage and was considering an XR6T for the work car as well.

You could probably risk a bit of upgrade but keep in mind warranty issues - T5s will take quite a bit of torque but you don't want to be doing stupid things like flat changes etc. Normal driving with the occasional squirt won't do too much harm - the life of all components is a finite thing and the more you flog it the sooner it will reach it's use by date.

I have a T5 behind my turbo ZL and it has much more torque than the XR6T - the box has been in two previous cars and done over 600,000km now without a rebuild - the last 150,000 behind the turbo so that is good service from the box IMO.

Im thinking in regards to warranty. What major changes or even minor changes can be done without warranty being voided? Im just a bit worried that anything changed will void the new car warranty.

It probably stands to reason that any changes you do that have the potential to alter the engine outputs will void the warranty. They provide the warranty on the basis that they've tested the car in the form as it is.

Personally I'd be waiting for the BA2 - face lift, upgrades, better worked, and maybe if the gearbox problem becomes a real issue, they will slide a new one into the BA2.

Ideally, I reckon that would be the best way to go about it. Give your AU's one last fang.
