Hi everyone,

I was wondering if someone who is in the Brisbane area could tell me which radio stations transmit RDS and if so what do they transmit?

Are they transmitting the song names and so on or just the name of the radio station?

Thanks in advance

Mike

Sorry, I probably didn't make myself clear enough.

In the new FG Falcons, the radio has RDS or Radio Data Signal which enables radio stations to send text with the audio signal, meaning they can display the name of the station and the song currently playing and so on.

I was just curious to see whether the stations were using this to the full potential or were just displaying the name of the station.

I hope that makes sense.

From another forum, posted Dec last year though...

973FM - Shows as '97.3 FM' and has the traffic signal. Works too (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

B105 - Shows as 'B105 FM' and that's about it

Triple M - Shows as 'TRIPLE M' and that's it

Nova - Shows as 'NOVA1069' and that's about it

River - Shows as 'River949' and scrolls between 'The HIT Music Station' and the song name.

Ive got a Kenwood HU in the Mini that I bought back in 1997. Its got RDS. Has it taken Oz this long to catch up with the rest of the world? Ive never used the radio with that unit.

Yeah mate, we tend to lag behind in some areas, I remember seeing this feature in Europe in 97-98 and was always wondering how come we don't have it here. Nice to see ford decided to catch up with the world. Can you even buy a head unit here with that feature?

I bought my Kenwood Head Unit here in Oz. However it was a special order as it came with a Carbon Fibre look faceplate. Id read up on its many features back in the day and it seemed like a cool idea. Cant say ive ever seen any HU's advertised with RDS as a feature though.

RDS - is very simply put... the Radio version of CD 'Text'...

Its been around for ages, however not many station bother with broadcasting it...

I think Triple J was the first, and from memory (mind u its 1 am) I remember it being broadcaster over 3 yrs ago...

It was generally an extra feature in high end branded aftermarket head units...

Digital radio - assuming this is referring to the same transmiting which you pick up through your TV's digital set top box has been also available for a few years now, however 'I' am not aware of any head units (in car) that tune for this as yet?
