Yesterday I went to ford and ask them how much it would cost for a service for my ute, he said $270 so I asked him what they do - oil and filter and he also said they plug something into the diagnosics port and update the ecu... he explained it like updating a computer but when you update a computer its normally only virus patches or a bug with windows - pretty sure my car isn't going to catch a virus from surfing for porn lol is there any point in doing this if so what?

Thanks Ben

yes there is, as problems are discovered in the way the ecu performs they fix and upgrade the program so there can be some benefits even though you may never notice them, having said that ask any early ba owner who went back for a service and drove away with about 40kw less power since ford discovered that the gearboxes were dying so they reduced the power to save their asses

That was the overboost fix wasn't it?

As long as your car isn't tuned or anything it's a usually a good idea to just let them update as required.

im thinking of getting the stage one kit from bpt in perth. it comes with tune from sniper box (are they any good?) and slight air intake modification. I have an extended warrenty too (will it affect my warrenty?). so if ford do the up dates on is it just a case of pluging the sniper back in storing the new factory updates and then putting the sniper tune back on?
