Not a bad album. I really wish some of the solos were more musical and less "hell breaks loose, play as many notes and frills as possible".

Having said that, The Day That Never Comes is a gem! Reminiscent of One / Fade to Black.

Im a die hard metallica fan and the new album isnt anythin special, theyve tried too hard to produce something that sounds like theyre old sound and just ended up making awkward sounding songs. There is a couple of good songs on the album dont get me wrong, and other fans are probably gonna shoot me for this but I DONT think this is better that St. Anger. Reason being they tried to make this album sound like ...And justice for all and Master Of puppets, St. Anger wasnt supposed to sound like anything before it (completely different guitar tuning Drop C as opposed to standard and Drop D). Another thing James's voice has changed a fair bit too since say the Black album and doesnt suit this style of song as much.

All in all though ill keep listenin to them... more their old stuff though.

Long time fan (bought M.O.P on release)

Their best work since And Justice For All, ruined by the worst compressed piece of sh*t mix I have ever heard. I purchased the album a day early, and rushed home to hear it.

Thought I had blown my JM lab speakers the sound was that bad, even my wife commented.

There are parts of The day that never comes, where the drums sound soo distorted and blown out...wtf were they thinking. (Greg Fidelman and Rick Rubin)

Rick Rubin hasnt had his name on a good sounding album in over 10 years, most overrated producer!

Go to Metallicabb.com to read the outrage over the f*ckup with the audio...Ironically the Guitar Hero 3 mix sounds 10x better, no clipping and digital distortion.

search the torrent sites, for the GH3 tracks.

there is a petition asking that they fix the master mix, last time I checked it was over 6,500 signatures.

Such a shame, I hope it gets sorted.
