As the subject says, I am getting bored with the F6 as I am hopeless with keeping cars for more than 3 years.

I have been looking at something European and the Audi's take my fancy. I am specifically lookin at a Audi B6 S4 4.2lt V8 manual.

I figure AWD manual V8 will be fun. I am not after the same performance as the F6, but rather a smaller and more nimble car, I do not like the new FG's.

My wife has knobbled my budget to $70k so I am limited by choice. I would like v8 and manual this time as I have had heaps of turbos.

Am I nuts to change ?

When I read the title I instantly thought "Screw some boost into it Zapper!"

But if you are after something different, the Audi's are a brilliant car. Just go and drive one - its a different world to Falcodores

I agree Pat, I have not driven one yet as I just got permission, but I have been thinking about a change for a while.

THIS is an example of what I am looking at.

I do not want to mod the car as it is not the power I am bored with and I already have fully done suspension and brakes. It is more about a change in scenery.

yeah, very nice cars. The older ones could be a bit "understeery" because the engine is mounted so far forward, but whether you will be able to test that out on a test drive may prove to be tricky! The 4.2s sound very nice too.

Build quality is excellent and from what I have heard the servicing isn't that bad for a euro.

I've driven a current model A3 1.8T and it was very nice, no rocket, but it went well and the handling was very solid.

I'm considering changing my wifes MY06 STi, as she is a bit past the boy racer stage, but she has to have AWD, and I dictate it must be a turbo.

However, she's going green and has been muttering the work PRIUS (and I cover my ears).

She likes manual cars, but for me a good auto is still very passable.

Audi do have a good range of cars, but the big HP Audi's are very expensive.

The A5 twin turbo diesel about to hit the market is around $100k. It will offer good performance, rather than powerhouse, and of course it can be modified, great fuel consumption, classy, and is on my short list for her.

I doubt I'd go back to a V8 manual (I've had 8 V8's over the years), and I did drive a manual modified R8 recently, and that did nothing for me ... cough, cough!

Mal, I thought the size of the F6 would suit you better than a smaller car. The F6 offers comfort and ride that you won't get in a smaller car... do a few mods to the F6 and it will feel very different. You are welcome to have a drive of mine to feel the difference.

A V8 will use up a lot more fuel than the auto F6.

if you convince your wife to give you a longer term lease and a higher price an AMG may be a good option to keep you very happy.

Brian

I'm with Brian... Up the budget & get into an AMG :stirthepot:

My Dad's mate is trading an 05/06 E55 on a Masarati in the near future for a ridiculous trade price so he might be keen to offload it for a similar price in a private sale? He's in Vic. Awesome car for such a big cruiser :spoton:
