This is why I carry a fire extinguisher, at least then you can have a chance at putting it out before it takes hold, without one you just have to stand there and watch it burn to the ground.

Damn that is/was a nice SS. But your mate should get a T, I'm pretty sure they don't catch fire at random.

Was it due to some DIY electric gadget mods, like stereo, gauges etc? I recon ETM nailed this one, as cars don't usually just burst into flames.

Glad your bud was ok.

We have come to the conclusion it might have been a fuel leak, he hasnt heard from the insurance company yet as it happened friday arvo but he doesnt reckon he wont get much as it wasnt ageed value but fingers crossed.

I've hinted about getting a XR6T but his a 1 eyed Expensive Daewoo man so enough said. All in all he got out safe and that's the main thing.

Cheers,

Rob- T6XR

My old xf almost did that to me once. Luckily I was outside a restaurant and I managed to get into the kitchen and borrow a powder extinguisher before it took hold. It never got to the cabin but toasted the engine bay pretty good. Its amazing how fast cars can go up. Ever since that ive always carried an extinguisher.

Could be anything, doesn't have to be mods!!

Could have had any number of fuels lines off the car leaving a chance for it to slowly loosen, or weakened the end of a hose by pulling on it.

Car fires are all the rage, they are usually over and gone within 30 mins of happening pending tow truck.

If you have to rely on the CFA in a rural area then chances are the fire will put itself out first
