To Nulon Or Not To Nulon?

Hi guys..

Sorry if this topic has been discussed before.

Many years ago I used Nulon E30 long term engine treatment and I could really hear and feel a difference which made me really think it worked.

Now that I have bought my own BF XR6 n/a, I'm thinking of putting it in. However, I have been reading a lot on the net regarding PTFE based additives and whether they work as claimed or is it just "snake oil", and at worst, bad for your engine in the long run.

I know the truth must be out there somewhere!

What do you guys think?

Do I Nulon or not???

I swear by the stuff. I have run it in my cars and bikes in the engine, gearbox, diff and power steering. All engines and components are noticeably quieter and generally a happier engine is the main benefit (if there is such a thing as a "happy engine")

A number of years ago, I had to rebuild the engine in one of my cars. The engine builder (that I have known personally for many years) said that he was genuinely surprised at how little wear there was in the engine given the work that it had done.

im using nulon 15w-40 I cant fault it the oil my mechanic was putting in it before made the engine really noisy I didnt like it that's why I switched to nulon the car just purrs now its so quiet and runs smooth as.

I have used it in my past 2 cars 1 being brand new and the other second hand,the engine's in both cars never missed a beat,and noise level's did drop! I'm picking my new fg xr6t ute up in 4 weeks and will prob put it in that,but being a turbo I will have to research up on it to be sure,it dont stuff the turbo up

Thanks guys for the feedback so far.

I guess this forum is open to people with negative opinions as well...but haven't read any yet.

Surely if some of you guys have had a bad experience with Nulon you would be only too happy to let fly big time and bag the s**t out of them. especially if it had done some harm or damage to your precious ride.

Keep the opinions and experiences coming though.

It's lookin like Nulon for me.

Don't use additives just use a good synthetic oil. most synthetic oil manufactures do not recommend additives.

I use AMSOIL in my car SAE 10W-40 Synthetic Premium Protection Motor Oil http://www.amsoil.com/

but many of the guys here use the products below. at the end of the day the more money you spend generally the better the oil and the better the engine life

Castrol edge synthetic

Mobil one synthetic

Nulon synthetic

havoline synthetic

If want real good protection then you need t use bypass filters, etc or a pre charge system like this below.

I am putting one on my car next oil change most likely as the kays are up enough for proper engine bed in.

Typically, an engine that has sat for even a short period of time will operate relatively dry upon starting before oil is able to fully lubricate the system. The AMS-Oiler® operates as an engine oil reservoir, charged under pressure directly from the oil pump output during normal engine operation. Upon turning the ignition key to the on position, up to 160 cc’s (5.4 oz.) of oil are discharged from the reservoir to engine surfaces, building oil pressure and providing vital lubrication.

I use Nulon engine oil, and will be using Nulon gearbox oil and Nulon diff oil since I discovered they now make it.

The PTFE E20 and E30 will work to an extent, I'd be using E20 with every change to help the turbo bearings. It shouldnt matter if you change the oil frequently, but the embedded PTFE could well help to save the engine or turbo if you had an oil starvation issue - it would at least add to the time you had to shutdown before things started to seize. Long story short- I still have an EF Falcon running backup for the phoon that I once inadvertently found myself driving WITHOUT OIL (~160rwkw- cam exhaust and intake). In fact I only noticed there was no oil (oil light didnt come on) after I turned the engine and stereo off and heard the f*cking thing! No oil trail anwhere to be seen, and no oil left whatsoever. Make of it what you will, but the only thing possibly lubricating that motor was leftover Nulon PTFE.

Edit: The only issue is getting Nulon stuff here in SA. I can get 10W-40 synth from the Parts Boys, but they dont stock the gearbox and diff oil. Supercrap and Rapco dont stock Nulon oils at all. Unaustralian f*ckers.

I tried the Nulon 10w 40 and changed back to Motul after 2 weeks. The Nulon is probably good for the price, but the Motul 10w 60 runs the engine much smoother and quieter with better oil pressure, but it cost 3 times the price of Nulon.
