the problem I had with mine (twice) was the 5th gear syncro's.. the final straw was the 2nd gear syncro. they just aren't a good box imo. just look at the size difference between the t5 and t56 to see where the weakness lies.

I do hope yours holds out ryan, as a 4.5k problem is not a nice one! I was lucky enough to be able to drive mine without 2nd for a few months while I got the bits together, but (st3lth) I would highly recommend NOT doing any more mods without having the cash ready for a conv.

I know first hand how hard it is to resist more mods because of the 5 speed & I ended up giving in. $6k later I had a 6 speed so just be aware that it 'WILL' happen if you push it too far

XR smart words mate, not everyone has 4.5 or more to just fork out on there car.

mine has lasted 6 months with 340rwkw and still going strong I had an after market gearset put in and the box rebuil . I drive it like I stole it and it handles it now worries, the gearset is good for over 600hp.

cost about 4100 though but it was worth it as its almost industructable now,
