Well... where to start?

I was waiting for my wife in a car park yesterday and some woman in a people mover pulls into the park next to me and her son opens his front side passenger door on my 2007 Typhoon - my pride and joy. So I look over and the kid looks at me and starts walking away with a guilty look on his snotty little face. I'm thinking --- wtf?... :stupid:

So I get out and let the woman know, "hey your son's opened his door on my car, look at the dent". She says, no he didn't he was in the back and it’s a sliding door. I'm thinking, great here we go... So I turn to the son and say "did you do this?". Sure enough he says "yes, I did it but it was an acciDENT (haha - yes I know)". The little guy seemed a little shaken up so I said "that's ok mate - accidents happen" to try and settle him, then looked back at the mother and said "but this one's going to need fixing". Next, I ask her for her details and she says "No, give me yours" and I'll call you. Yeah lady - do I have idiot written across my forehead? I say, "we need to 'exchange' details because I want to make sure you will get back to me". She then says I have to get my pizza, so wait here. This is the point pretty much where my blood starts to boil and I notice a couple looking at me from an ice-cream shop probably thinking why is that that young 30ish old man with that anti-social car speaking abruptly to that nice lady with kids like that?

She then strolls back to the car to load the herd in. My wife then returns and I explain the situation in front of this woman, and my wife suggests that we should 'exchange details'. THEN, this woman starts going on about I'm not sure that my son did it, so I restate the situation - 1. your son already admitted that he did it, 2. I felt the whole car move as he did it, 3. the paint removed from BOTH cars is in exactly the same height and I open her passenger side door and show her that it aligns perfectly - END OF STORY... :crybaby:

So THEN she says I'm leaving, and I'm not giving you my details. At this stage my left eye's starting to twitch erratically :omg: , and I start reciting the words calm blue sea, calm blue sea while my wife takes down her registration details. Both my wife and I were left absolutely speechless with what we had just experienced, and watched her rollaway, taking her about 6 attempts to get out of the park. Apart from being a complete low-life dreg of society, she clearly had no control of the van either.

I then drive to the local police station and report the matter and hand over her registration details. It took about 40 minutes of waiting, and the officer said he would contact the woman and call me back in the morning. He cases like this there isn't a lot he can do because the cars weren't in motion, and something else about if the kid is under 12 , and of course it's just her word against mine... Grrrr.

Anyway, two officers came out to see the damage. I felt like a was possibly being a little pedantic, because I think they were expecting to see more large scale damage to the car. As I showed them both officers left forward as if it was un-noticeable. I have to say I felt a little like Monk out of the crime fighter TV show. My wife and I had a chuckle about this afterwards, but regardless I don't think I'm being unreasonable expecting someone to correct a wrong that was clearly their fault regardless of what the law suggests. I felt better for reporting it anyways...

Today the officer rings to say that he went out to visit the woman, and the son now says he isn't sure if he did it, and she believes that he didn't. Surprise surprise - like mother like son... Looks like we have another grommet in the community.

The officer then says, the family is not in a good financial position and they believe that family values are what important and not physical objects like shiny fast cars. I'm thinking what the hell does this have to do with ANYTHING DUDE!??? Excuse me if I don't believe a word that comes out of their mouths! Apparently, and I was unaware of this, anyone who has a family can just around trashing people's belongings with no ramifications at all... I should have said, yes officer I believe family is important too which is why this woman should set a good example, and make this right. I also was oblivious to the fact that the law apparently is dependent on socio-economic demographics, and if you’re in a financial bind apparently its all ok to do as you please. Seriously though I was happy with the efforts of the officer and I think he was as thorough as he could probably be.

Clearly, the example she's set for her son is without a doubt the worst thing to come out of this so far. She's not only said, take no responsibility for your actions but also cohersed him into changing his story and blatantly lying to a law enforcement officer. Great example, for the next generation - scum bag!

So now I'm considering my options:

1. Go postal like Michael Douglas from 'Falling Down'...,

2. Get a third party involved (lawyer, small claims),

3. Contact the husband, whose details were given to me by the officer and try to work something out. Apparently, they said we might contribute up to $100 but we don't think a little scratch like that will be much. To me this admits guilt - why would you agree to pay $100 if you truly believed you were innocent?

4. Pay the excess with my insurance provider and get them to go after them (could possibly lose and my premium will go up),

5. Drop it, assume all costs myself and let them go free.

Sorry to everyone for unloading like this... but I'm p!ssed... mainly with the attitude of this woman. Anyway, hopefully you got a little amusement from this story and my experience. I've had other cars that careless people have bounced their car doors off when I wasn't there but I WAS there this time and I want it fixed.

Attached are some photo's. Do you think they can suck the dent out without taking the door off, and how much do you think it will cost. Are there any options I'm not seeing here? Has anyone had similar experiences?

Does anyone know of any good body shops in the western burbs of Brisbane?

If you made it this far cheers and congratulations (?)... Whew - better go have a lie down

Mate that sucks. I kinda know how you feel. Sometimes its not worth caring for you cars like we do, cause other people just don't give a sh*t and damage it and walk away.

I had a rental when I was on holidays down south and was damaged the same way as yours and the rental company took $500 of me. I was under 25 so the insurance access was heaps.

As far as repair goes I think it will need some bog/panel beat and a respray.

Good luck with it hope ya get it sorted asap.

Oh wow, that stuff really gets me going - I once witnessed a similar situation where a kid open a door on a 300zx a couple of years ago. The littel *beep* knew full well what he had done and even did the look around to see if anyone saw him. I saw him, and gave him and his dad a big blast. The dad was really good about it and left details while getting ready to give his kid a real good beating!

Paintless dent removal's pretty good, but works best if your paint is intact.

Visit a dent removal mob and see what their opinion is before you decide on seeing a panel beater.

With the tools they use and their expertise they can do an amazing job.

take the hundred dollars and walk away with as little agro as you can, or go postal like Michael Douglas, that should liven up the forum for a few weeks.

Nothing is worse than thinking that these are the kind of people we live around and their kids are most likely going to grow up to great citizens like their parents...

I say go postal!! haha.. no really.. just kill em all... ok.. maybe your story made me a bit angry coz something similar happened to me.. but the f*ckers drove off as I was coming to my car.. anyway..

I think just let it go, what goes around comes around..

I am insured with just cars and all damages were repaired 4 nothin with no black mark on my rating because I was not in the car at the time of the acc. all I needed was their rego - that's it no questions asked. this should be the same as yours, surely.

It's black, it will never be the same (

If you have filled in a police report, then send it to insurance and claim. You have the husbands details, so when they ask the name of the lady, say Mrs X

Insurance will then chase them for the money, and you are not out of pocket at all.

Don't feel one bit guilty about doing it either, they need to be taught their lesson, otherwise it will continue to happen time and time again...
