I don't think there is anything wrong with the FG styling. Criticising it for being too similar to the BA/BF (a great looking car) is rediculous. Why does a new model have to be so radically different? If they'd made major changes you'd all complain it doesn't look like a Falcon.

Why not try to look at the situation logically:

The FG is by no means an ugly car.

It has a neater an practical interior than the VE.

It is comparible in weight to the VE (let's face it, no manufacturer is making their cars lighter)

It is a better performer than the VE across the range.

It is noticably better on fuel than the VE (even comparable to the Camry)

It is the safest large car in the market.

So what's the real reason Ford is tanking. It all comes down to the fact they've dropped the ball for so long on their marketing and public awareness. This has allowed their oposition to establish themselves as being first and foremost in most of their taget market's mind. Their present marketing has done nothing to combat this. They make no mention of improved fuel economy, they don't promote their $2k of free fuel promos enough and they make no attempts to promote their V8 Supercar successes.

Holden's marketing on the other hand is brilliant. How else can you explain how they managed to outsell the BA/BF with the VY, an inferior, unreliable, so-so car. Expensive Daewoo ensures they have all bases covered in their marketing, and have doen for years. Now, they have so much momentum built up, they can keep that going from model to model. Plus they have a strong export market, while Ford are blocked from exporting by the dopes in the US.

A well thought out response. Here, here. I can't wait to get mine and I know it will be heaps better than the BA turbo I had.

FG styling = :spit:

Ain't that the truth. To me the writing was on the wall the moment I laid eyes on the thing. I thought it looked plain outside, but the interior doublepuke.

I've been staunch Ford supporter for 30 years, but they lost me. Couldn't buy another Expensive Daewoo on principle. I think I might have to try one of those all yankee SRTs for my next one, which just goes to prove there is no accounting for taste. I still like the look of the F6 in the right colour though and at least they slap HSVs. And I'm sure those who buy an FG will be justifiably more than happy with it so I'm not putting sh!t on the car, I just prefer to look elsewhere.
