If manual, have you checked out your clutch? Could be worth checking.

Manual it is, new clutch goin in on thursday.

Have you had the rocker cover off and checked all the rockers and componentry?

Getting checked thursday

Is there any noticable loss in power anywhere across the rev range?

Havent noticed any lost in power

Is it more noticable when it's hot or cold?

More when its cold

Have you tried unplugging the VCT plugs on the end of the camshaft actuators and having a listen?

Havent tried that yet

Have you run it on a dyno and had everything checked out as far as air/fuel ratios, boost pressure etc?

Havent tried this either

Thanks XR06T & PHANTMXR6, I'll get around to trying those suggestions.

You have to love how much ford au charges for it's spare parts, Boss 315 sluges are $11oo each lol.

I hope you've got proof to back up that statement.

You sure it wasn't for the whole set?

On your advice mate, I did. Didn't think it sounded right.

I got quoted $565 for a full set. Part number BAT6K100BKT. Comes in standard and 0.50 O/S.

I'd be checking your source.

Who in their right mind would be paying $1100 for one piston, let alone a whole set. :spit::rolleyes:

List price from the local ford dealer, if I had a scanner I'd post a copy. Feel free to call the local ford dealer in campbelltown.....

Who in their right mind would pay $565 for a set of stock pistons, forged units are the same price. $1000-$1500 for top of the line custom items

Just my 2 cents.... Have a 04 BA XR6T with the usual mods making 305rwkw. 2 months after fixing a cronic overboost situation, it developed a tick similar to what you have described, would have sworn it was a lash adjuster also (have been a mechanic for 20 years btw). Anyway after listening carefully with a stethoscope, both inside the rocker cover (through the oil filler cap hole) and on the engine block (you can access it between 5 and 6 on the drivers side) diagnosed it as a cracked piston. This was confirmed by pulling each injector plug in turn (the tick almost went away with no 6 disconected). Pulled my engine down today and yep no 6 piston had fried the crown on inlet valve side. Hope this helps if you havent sorted it yet.
