I finally got the shafts out.

I think they forgot to heat treat them. What do you think?

The one the right is part of the original shaft

I was talking to one of the guys here at work, and he mentioned the heat treatment. Would it be possible to buy a set of these shafts and take them to a machine shop or the like and get them heat treated properly?

Rob, was there any evidence of heat treatment on the splines? Maybe they did forget.

No Frank, there doesn't seem to be any evidence of heat treating.

Here is a pic of the other end and a full view of the inner cv. The heat treatment can be seen on the outer spline.

I think they'd have to be made from the right type of steel to be heat treated.

There must be a reason if they didn't heat treat them (cost maybe).

The cv's look strong enough.

Hmm, this is tricky, I might have to come for a spin down to the gong and have a chat to you Rob. I think if we can heat treat them it may be a kind of silver bullet

that's ok mate, if they don't give you a refund I'll come and check it out, if they do give you a refund I might just buy one and see if I can get it heat treated
