Broke A Cv Again!

Well I've done it again.

Last Sunday week I lost all drive. It ended up being a broken CV.

I ended up with replacement ones from CBC bearings at $198 each. He said before I ordered them that they have no warranty. I thought fair enough they might cop some abuse and they've probably had some warranty claims in the past.

I went about fitting them, went to work (less than 10kms) and back. I didn't touch it on the weekend and went to work yesterday, was coming home (250metres from work) and one has decided to let go again.

All up I've done less than 30kms on them.

I had planned to go to WSID this Wednesday and give Pat a run for his money, I guess that's not on the cards now. Lucky it happened before then, it would've been an expensive tow home!!!

Any suggestions for reasonably priced hardened ones? I know KPM have them for $1700 each, who else sells them? Nizpro?

Sorry to hear this Rob.

Have you checked out which part of the CV broke?

Did you repack the CV with grease upon fitment?

I thought other guys had bought these CVs as well, and I don't recall any threads on issues with them.

For those CVs to give out so quicky indicates another problem.

Crome moly CVs don't come cheap, unfortunately.

I've been waiting for my stock CVs to break on my auto, but they have survived quite a few launches at the strip.

Brian

Ahh, no good Rob, I was looking forward to seeing you out there tomorrow night!

I've seen one of those AADI (I think the same as CBC) let go before, it was the actual shaft that broke rather than the joint though.

It happened at 11pm last night. I plan to have a look today.

I don't think I could bring myself to get the same ones, I'd be too worried about it happening again.

Who else makes or sell hardened ones?

I've just put SSL springs in the rear, breaking the originals isn't such a surprise, these ones to go so soon is odd though.

Hmm, I spose we'll see what happens when you get a look at the damage done. I know Nizpro do them, and CV can supply billet ones (or something like that) and then there is the KPM ones. All expensive options.

I think figuring out what happened to these is the first step though.

so it snapped the shaft huh? or am I looking at it wrong?

Yeah sorry, I was running late for work when I posted that and didn't mention that it was the spline that snapped off.

The other one is the original with the spline intact for a comparison.

I'll pass on that. The old one broke the cv joint on that part. The pic shows the old and new together. They are a different type of cv and wouldn't be compatable anyway. They were cheap ones and I thought they might be OK. Proper hardened ones are they way to go I think. I intend to do a few runs at WSID and need something reliable.

I'll try Nizpro again today. They wouldn't answer their phone yesterday.
