G6et Exhaust Mods

Just wondering what people have done in terms of exhaust mods for the G6ET (is if the same at the FG XR6T ??). What benefits have accompanied the mods and are you happy with the result ? ie perfomance , noise etc. Also what sort of dollars did it cost ?

I am getting a custum tune in a few weeks for my G6ET and was wondering if a new high flow cat should be installed before hand or if the standard system will suffice. I do not want to change the sound too much if at all - prefer a nice quiet cabin these days. However, if a few more ponies can be unleashed with a cat/zorst upgrade then why not.

Anyway, if you have some info to share in this regard, I would be very interested.

I'd assume they are exactly the same as the XR's exhaust wise. Be interested in your Tune experience or if you find someone to comment on FG exhaust work.

There doesn't seem to be much around exhaust mod wise.

Good luck and keep us posted!

I had a custom tune done on my G6E turbo last week at Elite Automotive. went from 231atw to 264atw on 12psi. I wouldnt hold boost up top so it drops to 10psi. Going on what I've read about the BA/BF's a high flow cat netted another 10-15 atw so if the same were true here it would be pretty cool although when I mentioned to Tony about doing this before the tune he didnt think it was worth it and told me not to bother.

the tune alone is bloody great though, idles, drives and sounds just a little louder/angrier than the stocker. heaps more fun without the trade off of noise that ruins the whole point of the cruisy luxuriness of the G

Tony and the Elite boys are legends by the way

Hi OVAR8D,

thansk for the comments. I am also gettign my tiune done at Elite. Actually the day I booked it in must have been the day you were getting yours done. Paul mentioned that they had just done a G6ET that went from 231 to 264 - so must be you.

Where abouts are you based - if you are not too far away I would be interested in having a "Sneak Peak" at what I could expect.

Also you mentioned that it wouldn't hold boost up top - can you explain a little more please.

What it done economy wise? I assume it the same off boost but sink the boot and it's a little more thirsty?

orrie, yeah mate I'd be happy to take u for a bit of a strap. I work just around the corner from Elite. we r on Beaudesert Rd. Otherwise I live in Capalaba. PM me to sort out details if u like

vfast, it's hard to say on economy cause I cant keep my boot off the pedal long enough haha. I was expecting cruising to be better due to leaning out the mixtures so much but so far I havent seen that. at best I'd say it is the same. definately uses more when u boot it

As for it not holding boost up top, the turbo is either too small or the wastegate spring needs to be stronger or it needs more intake/exhaust mods to help free everything up to get it to hold 12 psi to redline.

I'd say it is a combination of these things. our turbo is about 540hp compared to 700hp in the BA/BF's so it still should be able to push a bit over 300kw atw with supporting mods. I'm not sure what the wastegate spring is on the turbo's now but uprgrading to a 12 psi one would surely help the factory boost control out

Hey OVAR8D,

thanks for the reply and offer. I have been flat out lately and not much time to look at the site. I can not see an opportunity to get down to have a 'strap' in your beast before I myself will be editied. I am down at Elite on Friday. Looking forward to the improvements. Will let you know how mine performs after the tune.

sorry I missed your post...

the extra power is fine unless u want to go sideways with both wheels smoking or do burnouts that wont get u laughed at for only being single leggers. I'd love diff upgrade but it will just mean I lose my license from doing burnouts everywhere haha.

for normal driving its fine

Guys,

I am a big fan of dual exhausts. And by that I mean a single pipe on each side of the car.

I have noticed that the GT's come with dual side exhausts and the appropriate cutout in the rear bumper apron. Does anyone know if the rear apron cutout is the same between a FPV and G6ET so that I could swap over the rear bumper apron to fit dual side exhausts to my G6ET and not have to cut my existing one?

I hope that makes sense????
