but they always seem to be around when you are doing 5km/h over the speed limit on a freeway or similar.

You got that right Ross!!

Did you think my car was too noisy when you drove it the other day?

I was followed by an unmarked SS from Aranda to just near home (knowing full well it was a cop behind me) and then pulled up and given hell over the car's mods, I think he was surprised to find an old fart like me behind the wheel but it took a lot of "discussion" before he was convinced not to give me an infringment notice (and I wasn't even playing with the right foot)

Cheers, Bazza.

As a Canberra copper I can tell you that there are quite a few 'hot spots' for car getting pinched in Civic. The best places I can suggest for parking in town are the paid parking areas across from the Canberra Centre. If you take your ticket with u (cos u have to) the dumb crooks will have to pay if they wanna pinch your car outta there. Its a little safer than anywhere else and they have security occasionally walking through, as well as a lot of people

The open carparks on Bunda Street and behind the Theatre are a problem, and theres no way known I'd park the car across from Canberra CIT. Canberra has lots of druggies and druggies pinch cars. Look where the druggies hang out and theres a hint of where not to park. We have even had people try to pinch our cars from behind City Station when we are at work ! Straight acroos the road from Civic, at the big flats in Braddon, is a big hint of where some of the characters come from

Best of the worst bunch is the paid multi-level parks. Short term in town I'd park at the parking meters right outside the Police Station on London Circuit. Short walk but better than walking home.

Unfortunate thing is if someone really wants to steal your car they will. Immobilizers help but there are ways and means and they dont stop a tow truck. Make sure your insurance is up to date. If your planning on going out and leaving the T in town....dont. Drink 3 less beers and cab it home

Basic advise is the best. A well lit and semi secure place is your best bet but there's no secret to it. Good luck

Uh oh...I've just started a (day) course at CIT. Think I'll be riding the pushy there from now on.

Nope, I reckon the cop was just jealous cause he had to drive a piston slapper!

No need for jealousy mate, we have the XR6Ts at work. And just to clarify a point, there arent many, if any, coppers who'll book for 5km over the limit. We dont run the speed or red light cameras in the ACT, the govt just decided to let us administer their dirty work for them.

just jokes velvet glove.....we know you guys are the ones stuck in the middle.

btw arent speed camera's supposed to be specificaly placed due to accident/crash data? I have seen a few lately that are in places where it is nearly impossible to have an accident.

You'd have to ask the ACT Govt that. They run the mobile cameras as well. The fixed red light cameras are supposed to be at accident 'black spots' (Northbourne and Barry Drive being a prime example of a black spot) but the mobile cameras go to other spots or places where people have complained about speeders, like Phillip Ave and places like that. Like I tell everyone else, if you dont wanna contribute to the revenue raising, dont speed. I have copped a couple of camera fines and u just have to cop em on the chin (72 in a 60 at 0400 on a Wednesday morning being an example !!)

there is a fella called Craig, but he is a phantom with roof racks.

I never leave my car in civic, or anywhere for that matter, without keeping a real close eye on it.

civic is full of real dodgy people. I know of a few break ins around the royal theatre.

WD Bazza

Yup mine is a Phantom XR6T with Racks.

Bloody hell that was a bit brave!
