Turbo Timer Thread (Merged Topic)

This and most other water cooled turbos are designed to continue circulating water well after the engine is turned off. The water at the top of the turbo boils and draws colder water through it. Pretty clever really :w00t2:

So running the engine after would just keep the turbo hotter longer.

It's called THERMOSYPHON TURBO

Ford used the thermosyphon trick..how it works simply,turn off donk,turbo hot boils coolant,boiling coolant rises up the pipe which means new coolant flows in,so you get a flow of coolant moving around and around with out the water pump running.

Pretty neat trick that,good for around town stuff.

If you do a track day and sting the living sh!t out of it,you should let it run a bit before shut down :sleep:

Id like to get some feed back on this because I have asked the service manager and he said no.  My xr6t runs pretty hot.

No you need one, I dont know if there is anyone here that uses one either. If you been doing some spirited driving just let it idle for a minute before you turn it off. What do you mean by running hot?

so it thermosyphons, but the oil doesnt thermosyphon, so it cooks any oil that m,ay be sitting in or around the red hot turbo bearings after a hot shut down, just ready to go to work on the bearings when the car gets started up next.

but hey, I dont even own a turbo, and I still drive easy til its warm, then let it idle down for a bit after a hard run to let everything normalise temps again. but I guess as long as you have warranty it isnt an issue.
