thanks for the info all, I feel I won't be -putting that on the christmass wish list. heh, no need. I always used to let the thing cool down after flogging it anyway.

With my rex (here we go again rice lovers) I did not fit a TT. I would just use it sensibly, and wait if I had given it a hard time. I did 212,000 ks in that thing. I have one fitted in my 4WD though. It is a turbo diesel and is literally on boost at idle. It runs quite hot and sometimes needs a good idle.

having said that, it is my understanding that it is illegal in NSW to operate them. There are certain conditions. You cannot be more than either 9 ft (3m) or 15 ft (5m) away from your car with the engine running, or unlocked. You can be fined for this. Law was introduced in the last yr or 2 with the increase in car snatching involving kids in the back seat.

For more info check www.rta.nsw.gov.au or your local state.

Just wondering as I've heard a few different stories that some people use them some people don't on thier T's

so just wondering if it's something I should put on my wish list or not.

keeping in mind I don't have any immediate plans to modify it, that said I had one on my wrx since day one.

so what do ya's think???

Cheers,

Matt

for old technology based turbos IMHO ...

the turbo diesel landcruiser at work has an aftermarket timer but it gets flogged :smilielol:

the manufacturers are designing within the need for them now (well they claim they are  ).... but it always good to leave the motor/turbo idle-down for awhile ... a few seconds even ... to lessen that temperature peaking

What do you guys think about turbo timers and if the XR6T needs one, when I bought the car the sales guy said, " if you have been gunning it dont turn it straight off, leave it for a minute or so, then turn it off". So got me thinking if I should get one fitted to prevent damage to turbo fan?

You dont need one mate, the only time you would need to let it cool down would be after heavy hooning or some track work, puttind around town dont even raise a sweat fof the T

Pluss its got thermosyphon cool down for the turbo..and dont forget at max its only 6psi so its not working its ringer off like a rice bowl.

Yer Viks right, plus a turbo timer plays havoc with the sercuity system and then your warrantys up the creek, and I would hate to think what it would cost to fix it. They have the same problem with the F series!

Another thing on Turbo Timers is they are illegal. This is because you are not allowed to have a vehicle running and not be in control of it or somthing along thoes lines. Apparently the RTA (NSW) has more info on this as it is a state law. I have also been told remote starting devices like some alarms have are also illegal for that reason.
