Just out of curiosity has anyone had any issues with getting 18% or less than legal tint either with the law, or with an insurance claim.

Tossing up what to do / get with my new F6.

Cheers

I am more thinking about if the car is written off or in a major crash. I have heard of a GT owner writing his car off and was told by the insurance company that his visibility was impaired by the tint and denied his claim.

Chris I would not risk it.

I used to have 20% on one of my cars and nearly ran someone over at night turning a corner.

I would think that if I had hit and injured/killed them I would have been in far more trouble if the tint was illegal.

You need to think about the dark and rainy nights that you need all the vision you can get. Try driving with dark sunglasses on and see how much it really can impair your vision. I have the legal 35% on mine and it is fine. Get the metalic tint if you want privacy.

I have 15%,20% or something similar and don't have any issues with visibility, except when reading house numbers and stuff and reversing at night for which I need to open windows sometimes. I was pulled over few times and had an insurance claim (big one), no one said a thing.

Every undercover cop car has dark tints so they aren't going to say anything.

But it depends allot on the quality of the film, I had some sh*t film on one of my old cars, couldn't see a thing through them, had to open side window when turning at night, that was dangerous, but the best thing is that they didn't look dark during the day, don't know what the deal was.

My mum went for the 35% on her new car and it's absolute rubbish in my opinion, too see through, 20% is dark enough but you can still see fine through them at night. and I might be wrong but I think that the mirror tints are illegal.

I've had darker than legal tint on all my cars and have never had any issues with police etc. Can't say that an insurance company wont deny a claim though. Just the risk you take I guess.

I personally dont worry about things that may never happen.

Give Bob the tinter a call Chris, I can introduce you if you want, good ol Bobby will hook you up with the best tint job ever. I wouldnt recommend him if he was crap, he's done 8 cars for me personally so far.

ive had 18% on every car ive ever owned except my 350Z which had 28% on it, still under the legal limit of 35%..

Never had a crash or a claim though, but I would say insurance companies would try and use it as an excuse to get out of paying if indeed the accident logistics indicate that overly dark windows could have been a contributing factor...
