I bought an ex chaser. It was 3 years ago though. I thought mine was well worth the price. Paint was in decent nick and the interior as well. I had it all checked out by a mechanic friend and he told me that if I didn't buy it he would. I know you cant really check cars at auction but I thought it was worth it.

The car also come with "premium" brakes and reverse sensors that at the time were all the rage and they were a bonus to me, because I didn't know there were "options" until after I had the car.

If you can afford to get a private T then get it. If your budget doesn't allow for it and you still want a T, you will be fine with an ex cop car.

I wanted a T but I couldn't afford them as a private market so I hit the auctions and picked an 05 BA T for $16k, it had 58*kms on it and was in good nic.

You can find out how much cars are going for at auctions if you ring up after the auction. Give them the lot number and they will tell you if the car sold and the price range it sold for within $500. I did that for about a month to get a gauge on what they selling for but the best way is to actually go to the auction when it is happening and to see how it works etc.

My opinion is that it depends on what you are happy to be in and pay for.

In NSW the HWP cars are serviced every 10k by dealer. They get no special treatment, however the XR8's had a flash to allow a higher rpm idle to assist with all the electronics wired into the car.

If you are happy to have a car that would have been driven HARD then grab one as they are cheap.

But I gaurantee no matter how shiny the paint is these things get driven all day, everyday flat stick. with no mechanical sympathy.

Me. Buy private or dealer, got less chance of getting a gutter hopper.
